its supposed to be a horror story, bout this man who finds something (I forgot what it was) that grants wishes, but everything he wishes for comes true but in a horrifying way. One day, his son dies at work - some machine mutilates him- and the father wishes that he come back to life. n he does but with all his broken skin n stuff. he knocks on his parents door....

that was such a good book and it's only 100 pages! it confused me at first because i thought james was black but in the book he was biracial. however in reality he was black, both his parents were too but the reaon he titled it that was because he wanted whites as well as blacks to buy his book. i'm excited because i just realized that after reading about it on the internet. i think that's also the same reason why the narrator spoke in first person instead of saying his name in the book. My english teacher asked us why the book was in first person and i never thought it but now i do so when school starts back i can't wait to tell him. it's a good book and for those who haven't read it, you should.

I read about it, once. Two credit cards bills got mixed by mistake, and people paid them, without actually checking them! Can my huge visa card bill be sent to some dotty old woman in Cornwall, and I will receive hers, which will be 39 p for two cans of cat's food, which I will pay without questioning. Fair is fair, after all. Can it really happen?

As memories crept up on her, tears came trickling down her cheeks. They formed a pool in the hollows of her eyes before splashing onto the photograph below. The photograph was of her and her beloved ex-boyfriend, who left her at the height of their relationship for a reason she did not know.

With the last tear slowly seeping down, she whispered to herself, “I can’t do this anymore.” The sorrow girl now realized what she hadn't known before; he had been utterly deceitful with her, saying she was beautiful; the best thing that could have ever happened to him; that she was the only person he wanted to be with the rest of his life. And she fell for those convincing lies.

Yeah, I'm grown up, but so many adult books annoy me I'm more apt to read children or young adult books. I enjoy reading adult books, but there's so many bad ones out there sometimes I give up. Any recommendations?

I've read all of Tolkien's work (LOTR, Lost Tales etc), Rowling (Harry Potter Series), Feist (Talon of the Silver Hawk Series), Paolini (Eragon and Eldest) and I just finished Pullman's 'His Dark Materials.'

I'd really like to find another good series to get lost in, but I'm skeptical of the plethora of fantasy books available today. Additionally, my experience in picking up random fantasy books off the shelf has not been encouraging; most of the fantasy books I pick up I put down almost as quickly because they are simply awful.

Has anyone read a good fantasy series that can compete with the ones I've mentioned? I'd like to avoid another unpleasant encounter.

Do you break the spine and get stuck in or do you read it carefully so you keep it in good condition? I prefer to break the spine because it makes the book seem like it's good because you want to read it. If people lend me their books, I prefer them to be worn in because then its more likely to be a good read, whereas when people give me books that are in pristine condition, I worry whether the book is any good! Also are any of you those annoying people who read the last page of the book before you've read the whole book? Or even worse, do you ignore the prologue and just start reading from the first chapter because I know people who do that and it is so annoying!
