that was such a good book and it's only 100 pages! it confused me at first because i thought james was black but in the book he was biracial. however in reality he was black, both his parents were too but the reaon he titled it that was because he wanted whites as well as blacks to buy his book. i'm excited because i just realized that after reading about it on the internet. i think that's also the same reason why the narrator spoke in first person instead of saying his name in the book. My english teacher asked us why the book was in first person and i never thought it but now i do so when school starts back i can't wait to tell him. it's a good book and for those who haven't read it, you should.

I read it quite a few years ago and was well into it before I realized it was fiction and not a real autobiography. Maybe Johnson wrote it under that title and in the first person for just that reason.
