The books and the movies, yes! A lot! Unlike the HP movie adaptations, the LOTR trilogy did not disappoint however different they were from the books. Even the added scenes that were not from the book were great. I'm a Harry Potter fan but I've always maintained that Tolkien's saga was way much better, it has richer plot, the characters have more depth and the sceneries were just too awesome to imagine! Even heavenly New Zealand could not quite capture what Tolkien described Middle Earth to be. The story was written as if Middle Earth and everything on it exist, complete with historical background, chronology, genealogy, language and atlases! Even my 6 y/o son with Global Developmental Delay and speech difficulty was enamored by the movies and claims he is "Dodolas" (Legolas) and must have watched them more than 20 times each already. The Battle of Helm's Deep must have been engraved in his memory already as he repeatedly replays that scene. Credit should be given to Pete Jackson for making the movies because he brought LOTR in the minds of millions amidst the HP phenomenon.

The books were fantastic

The movies (in comparison to the books) were pale shadows. In and of themselves, they are great movies, but standing beside the books have got nothing

YES!!! I absolutely LOVE The Lord of the Rings--both the movies and the books!! J.R.R. Tolkien was a literary genius, and Middle Earth is such a rich, vibrant world, full of unique languages (who doesn't like Elvish?), culture, and history. The way Tolkien writes is simple, yet complex. Simple in the fact that he doesn't use ridiculously big words, yet complex in the way he's able to describe certain things. I'm certain he understood the value of words; that's a gift.

And the movies, I believe, were just as amazing!!! All three of them were fantastic--some of the best movies I've ever seen. The way Peter Jackson was able to take Tolkien's mammoth stories and make great films out of them was a remarkable feat. Not only that, but the actors were top-notch, too--and you could tell that they cared about the characters they were acting. The heroic music, breathtaking scenery, and epic battles just added to the beauty of the films.

I could go on heaping praises upon praises about The Lord of the Rings. But I think I made my point clear enough...

Hope this helps!!! =)

Book or movies? I loved both. When I finished LR the first time, I felt really let down, and I wanted to write to Tolkien (who was still living at that time) and say, "The Lord of the Rings is like everything beautiful I ever read and yet like nothing else. Trying to read another book after finishing it is like listening to anyone else after hearing Saruman'; but I could never decide whether to put those two sentence in that order or the other way around. As another measure of how much I loved LR, a few months after I read the first Harry Potter novel, the movie of it came out. While I was making plans to go see it, I saw that The Fellowship of the Ring was about to open, and I forgot all about seeing HP and the Sorcerer's Stone. I had wondered for years whether LR could ever be filmed, and I was absolutely delighted with what Peter Jackson did with itl I just wish he'd been able to squeeze in Tom Bombadill and the courtship of Faramir and Eowyn.

Yes and no.

Yes because the movie was SPECTACULAR! It was done PERFECTLY and all the actors were GREAT. Special effects are AWESOME and they didn't spare the details! And the humor is nicely executed.

No because i had to pee and since it was so damn freakin *@&$^@ good and long, i had to hold it in for the next TWO hours!!!

... when's the next one? ^_^
