what are some really good books for a 17 year old girl who loves reading? (we've been out of school 18 days and i've read 9 books.) I'm going to be in college English next year, if that helps any. I like lots of different kinds of books the only thing i dislike is science fiction. I like books that will stretch my mind, and others that will make me experience different emotions. any suggestions?

Phillip looked around and in one lunge shoved the icepick through the head of the drankle from Neptune. He whirled back the other way and choped the head of the godding from Saturn off with the thin slicer razor. "Go ahead and make my day you kings of New England, you princes of Venus!" he exclaimed as he drilled seven holes in the feet of the large zombie from Pluto.
"Ouch," cried the zombie, "__________________________________________________________________________________________!"

Hopeless at this kind of thing, so tell me - how do you pronounce Kurt Vonnegut?? Is it VONN-I-GUT (to rhyme with BONNY NUT as someone on another website once said) or something completley different?

I've already read:
Twilight and New Moon
His Dark Materials
Harry Potter series
Chronicles of Narnia
Ella Enchanted
The Screwtape Letters (that's more like theology though)
The Historian (also counts as historical fiction)
Avalon High
The Mediator
The Left Behind Series (also theological)
Eragon & Eldest
Enchantment
Coraline
The Goose Girl
East
Beauty
T*Witches
and lots more, but I can't remember the rest!

I will get to:
Lord the Rings series
Tamora Pierce books

i just cant focus and the stories never "come alive". i get really bored easily; i end up not following the story. i sometimes read a page or two then stop to think about what i just read and have no clue. so i reread it, and yet again dont follow. so i end up rereading the same page a few times before becoming frustrated with it and giving up.

has anyone else been through this problem?
any ideas how to get that desire to read?

thank you for your time

It is good that everyone can get a chance, but it is so over saturated with authors( some seem barely literate).. How can someone get a real chance at marketing? I advertise all over, but cannot get any sales. Any pointers? Any other writers self publishing cause of obscure or controversial subject?

Many of the answers i saw on this site lacked proof. I would like to see both sides of the argument and i will award the best answer to the person who gives the best proof. In book 2 CoS, didnt Dumbledore say Voldemort put a bit of himself in Harry? however, why does Voldemort want to kill Harry?
