In the new movie, Sweetly Tender, the two main characters, Elizabeth and Ned, make an appealing and believable couple. Elizabeth's struggle is especially compelling, since she must hide her wealthy background in order to be accepted by Ned's middle-class family. And Ned also harbors a terrible secret that I won't reveal here. The pacing is somewhat uneven, and the supporting cast does not offer much in terms of robust performances, but the overall effort is an engaging diversion that is worthy of your attention.

Answer:

a. Ecstatic

b. Indifferent

c. Positive, but with qualifications

d. Derisive and dismissive

e. Hopelessly uninformed

I have a bunch of old books. Is there a site out there that could tell me if they're worth anything or not?

And if so - do you ever come back to comment on how you liked them? Just wondering because I recommend an awful lot of books to an awful lot of people and I wonder if they read them and liked them. Pax - C.

Ny friend and I devoured books in jr high school and one of our fave authors was Christopher Pike. This book was about a boy with two first names ( like Craig David). He died from the Bends (sp?) and I believe when describing his death, it made reference to a heart shaped balloon... We were trying to figure it out but can't. Can you please help???? What is the title to this book??? (PS we are both 25 now...so it was probably out 10-13 years ago)

The book is a young adult novel about two best friends. They are both dancers, and one of them has this pain in her hip that gets so bad she collapses and it turns out to be bone cancer. She has this step parent that she hates andkind of has to come to terms with, and later in the novel she talks about the time she and her best friend saved $25 and hiked up a giant hill to see a psychic who tells her that she will go on a long journey alone. In the end, the girl with cancer dies. I know these aren't very good details but I read the book 6 or 7 years ago. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about then I would be really grateful for your help!

hunger in new york city
simon ortiz

Hunger crawls into you
from somewhere out of your muscles
or the concrete or the land
or the wind pushing you.

it comes to you, asking
for food, words, wisdom, young memeories
of places you ate at, drank cold spring water, or held somebody's hand,
or home of the gentle, slow dances,
the songs, the strong gods, the world
you know.

that is, hunger searches you out.
it always asks you,
how are you, son? where are you?
have you eaten well?
have you done what you as a person
of our people is supposed to do?

and the concrete of this city,
the oily wind, the blazing windows,
the shrieks of automation cannot,
truly cannot, answer for that hunger
although i have hungered, truthfull and honestly, for them
to feed myself with

so i sang to myself quietly:
i am feeding myself
with the humble presence
of all around me;
i am feeding myself
wiht your soul, my mother earth;
make me cool and humble.
bless me.

I think there is a term for this.
.
Example:
.
"We are earth's best, that learnt her lesson here.
Life is our cry. We have kept the faith!" we said...
.
Proud we were,
And laughed, that had such brave true things to say,
- And then you suddenly cried, and turned away.
.
(Rupert Brooke, "The Hill")

I promised myself to stop after the first joke, but this one just popped into my head:

Angus McDonald never ironed his clothes. His brothers, as a result, were known as "Rumpled-Kilt's" kin.

I'll keep my day job, but did it make you chuckle just a bit?
