I've recently gotten into substance abuse books, got any great ones you've read?
I've already read "Smack" and "Go ask Alice." I've been recommended "Beauty Queen" which I'm headed out to get soon. So any others? Doesn't even have to be substance abuse related. Anything is appreciated. :)

I can find places to pay to have it published, then it is up to me to publicize it. I live in a very small town, so there are no local sources to sell it if I do that. I feel that if I do that I will have wasted alot of money. I have a full time job, so getting out of town is also out of the question.

3O years ago I wrote a childrens story (for my own amusement really). However, for some reason it has travelled with me everywhere since. In which time I have added another three which carry on from the original.
I would really like to know if they are worth trying to get published, but it seems such a long process, and at 6O I don't know if Iv'e got the energy. Friends keep pushing me to do something and as I am now retired and on a pension, they keep saying I should try getting them looked over. Where do I start?any easy ways?

The Life and Tragic Death of Edgar Allen Poe

Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849) was a critic of literature, as well as a renowned author of short stories and poems that have captivated the worlds intellect for nearly two centuries. He was one of the great literary minds of the American Romantic movement which lasted roughly from 1830 through 1865. Known as the father of the modern detective story, for giving us the guidelines for a short story and also for the eerie and somber tone of most of his poetry. Even though he has been dead for over a century his work is still greatly esteemed to this day, like with many great literary minds of this world, they are not fully appreciated until their death. Even though Poe was a literary genius and a brilliant man his self destructive behavior was his undoing in the end.

1. Main character is a 27 year old single mom, trying to loose the pounds from having her baby, goes on dieting and eventually becomes anorexic

2. Child, 5 years old, is abducted by someone… it is an adult and they talk together and stuff for about a month in the playground before he abducts her. The guy turns out to be this child’s real father, who the mother wanted nothing to do with and now he wants rights to the child.

3. The mom kills the guy who abducted her child, and everyone thinks its suicide. This guy’s new girlfriend insists it’s not and goes to great lengths to find out the answers on her own.
---------

Any other ideas or info- would the baby's father (after not seeing her for 5 years) still have rights to get visiting rights or custody?

So, I'm having a conversation with my girlfriend about this poem. She dosn't seem to know what it's about. I told her, I feel that it's about sex. Can any of you tell me what you think it may or may not be about? If you check the internet could you also list a source or something, Thanks.

The topic is: Holden is an innocent confused child, rather than an antagonist

What do I write ?

-how he trys to preserve children’s innocence (that doesn’t mean he has to be innocent in order to do that! Example: a mother can be bad, but is trying to preserve innocence of her children)

-he’s mentally sick (I can’t write a whole paragraph on this! All I can state is that he’s in a mental hospital..!)

HELP ME PLEASEEE!!!!

I have written a novel before... but I'm out of ideas at the moment. Is there a "process" you go through to find out a good plot line?

I have to give a 5-7 minutes presenation on this theme. I have my research, but what is a good way to present it besides just reading it?? Any idea will get me on the path to something. I need a creative way to do it to not bore the class. Thank you in advance!

FYI:

Gothic Novels are fictional, dark, horrific, mysterious, supernatural, dreadful, 18th century novels (such as "The Castle of Otranto"). They usually take place in castles, mansions, abbeys, etc. with characters such as ghosts, demons, death, mystery, magician, vampires, etc. I know it sounds similar to horror, but it came before those type of books came out.

My mother was born in the 1940s and enjoyed a series from the library but cannot remember what it was called. She says it was about a family of cave-people with names that were something like "Oog" and "Og." That sort of thing.
Does anyone know the name of the series? She said there were possibly at least three or more of these books.

For example, he reincarnated in the opposite Astrological sign, different sex, race, etc. to learn lessons, but is carrying over a lot of characteristics of his last lifetime.

And not the Bible, Koran, or Torah This goes a lot deeper.

This is for a friend of mine who lost a book that she borrowed and needs to buy a new copy w/o telling the person she lost it (because that person borrowed it from someone else etc) The book is about a woman who moves to Malibu, I think, crashes a party does something with breaking into someone's house, ends up marrying that person whose house she broke into for some reason (I don't why because I did not read the book). They have two children together, then someone breaks into their house and she gets hurt. The father ends up taking the two children to the desert to be raised in a remote area with no contact with others...That is all I got, anyone who has read that book that can tell me the title?
