Imagine that you are amember of the jury sitting in judgement of Meursault and you have been given access to the stranger as Meursaults tesitmony in his own defense. Is Meursault the monster the prosecutor says he is and thus deserving of execution, or are there extenuating circumstnaces that should make his sentence lighter? pay close attention to the shooting scene to determine what he is guilty of and be sure to state explicilty what you believe his sentence should be and why

I'm trying to find a copy of a poem titled "Why God Made Doctors," written in 1997.
I don't know who it's by, but I saw a copy on one of my doctor's walls and loved it!
Here's a bit that I do remember ~ "God made Doctors, For He knew that there would be, People with compassion, For all humanity."

Any ideas?

criticism only please!The fall

Main character: Break Thompson
Wife: Clara Thompson

When Break stepped out on the porch, the sun was just rising. The Two pit bulls Break kept for security were fighting, The smaller dog charley was loosing the fight but refused to submit.

It was a ordinary midwinter nebraska morning, windy and bitter cold. The sky was a hard slate color in the light of the rising sun.

Break felt worn down this morning. He had had a rough run of it lately, Two of his best men, and several others had been killed in an ambush the week before. Break himself had been wounded, not serious just a flesh wound but it had become infected before he could get back to the compound. He fought a fever for most of the week but finally the wound was on the mend. His wife Clara had cleaned the wound for him and Bandaged it. He had killed seven men that day, and his group had won the fight, But the loss of men was a hard blow to his group. The battle still troubled him because he had not seen this group before, and they had fought so viciously, Not stopping when a man was obviously dead but continuing to mutilate the victim. They had seemed crazed, also they had all had an open eye branded into their foreheads. Branding was a common thing among the roaming groups of savages that traveled the country now, but never had he seen a group of men branded in such a way. Their leader must be a terrible mercilous man to drive men that hard. Most likely Break would meet this man some day. Though he didn't welcome the prospect. He had finished many bad men in the six years since the collapse but he never enjoyed the victory of it. It was all necessary but had seemed a waste to him.

Life had become a series of necessities in the years after the collapse. It had been the last world war, world war 3. Four billion had lost their lives in the war, and untold millions more afterwards. Most from the viral agents used by the american government and others. What once had been taken for granted now was life and death matters. Break shuddered at the thought of how he himself had once squandered such things as food or water, how he had taken for granted the ability to drive down to any restaurant or grocery store and buy virtually anything he wanted. The very thought of such waste now was sacrilige. Especially water, now so very rare that it was hoarded at the cost of many lives. If you had water you were rich in this world. He pondered this fact often. The first year or two had been the hardest and bloodiest for Break and his family. In the beginning they hid and had to kill nearly everyone that happened near them for fear of being discovered, it had been hard but necessary.

I need to read a book this christmas break for english. Please keep in mind that i am a junior in high school and therefore need a book with some breadth. I also prefer to read a book that is can be recognized easily, that way there is a chance my teacher read the book or at least knows what it is. I also prefer fantasy, horror, and classics like Othello for instance.

A Autistic boy communicated through a ABC board to his mom. And she wrote down what he points out. The book has poems he wrote and stories of their life.
I am trying to figure this books title or the boys name. The title (i think) had the word God in it.
I remember that the cover of the book was white and it had almost like stain glass windows on it. It has a picture of the boy on it too.

I loved this book, I lost it while moving states and can't find it now.

Please help.

To give you some idea, here are some I enoyed:

House of Leaves
The Ringu series
Dark Water
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
The Historian
Sunshine
Hell House
Chocolat
American Gods

Either books with passages that are beautiful and make you think, or some spooky novels (please no "Ghosts of New York" types though)

I just finished reading the last book of the series, but I´m still confused.
*Why did Count Olaf Kissed Lemony Snicket´s sister, Kit Snicket?
*Was Lemony Snicket in love with the Baudelaire´s mother? (Her name was Beatrice, and in the book THE END it says that he gave her a ring but she gave it back to him)

*ARE YOU ALL AS CONFUSED AS I´AM?
-------Do any of you know any other important detail from A Series of Unfortunate Events?------

I'm trying to track down a short-story that I read as a teenager and which made a deep impression on me. It was by Beckett and it started with a stream of consciousness in which an old (?) man reminiscened over a stairway he'd known as a child. In those days I read it in a Danish translation, which makes it even harder, but it went something like this: "The stairs weren't very high. I'd played on them many times as a child and counted their steps. Only, I couldn't tell you how high they were, because I never knew if I had to count the ground level as one step and the top level as one step. Consequently, I'd always arrive at three different numbers. I'm not even sure that, even if I found one of the three numbers in my memory the other two would come back to me as well..." and so on. I really want to re-read this story as an adult man, so if it rings a bell I'll be most grateful for a clue.
