A lot of authors do this, especially when they're well known in a genre and want to branch out without alienating people who wouldn't necessarily read that genre.
I'm a novelist, and I never publish under my real name.

Sure it's legal. John can believe President Truman _is_ a dead alien if you want. What you can't do is write a story where real people do fictional things they'd never do for real. (So it's fine to have a real newsreader reading the news in your story, even though the news is fictional.) be aware that doing this sort of thing dates your story very badly, though. Even five years on it will probably be seen as "old". You don't list sources in fiction. But it's fairly common in historical books to have an author's note at the end saying which bits were real and which were fictional.

Yes, you can write books with two different names. Because, the author of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Books is actually written by the same author! His real name is Edward Straitmeyer, but he uses Carolyn Keene for Nancy Drew, and Franklin W. Dixon for The Hardy Boys. You can use as many different names as you wish.

Yes!
My favorite author Sara Donati (pen name) has a couple of other books using her real name, Rosina Lippi.
Many other authors have done this as well.

I am pretty sure that you can. Alot of authors, including Meg Cabot have done that when they worked with more than one publisher or agent.
