I'm sure it will be more common in the future, but as of now, there are very limited distribution options. Also, intellectual property rights and means to earn money from your work is in danger.
In my oppinion, you should take the first few chapters and go public on a public "blog" type site and pique the interest and find a publisher.

Don't do it.
Instead:
1. Start writing your next novel.
2. Send the first one out to publishers and/or agents. Give it six months to a year before you even think about giving up on it. By the time it either gets published or you decide it's unpublishable, your next novel will be finished--and that one will have a much better shot than your first.

It's a good testing ground if you are uncertain about the quality of your novel, but it's not well established enough as yet to be the ONLY place that you publish it. If you're looking for feedback, you'd be better sending some sample chapters around agents and getting their opinion. You might also make sample chapters available for feedback on writer's forums or web sites for peer review.
If your novel is already a fairly finished product, start sending it to literary agents. You can locate them through 'The Writer's Handbook' or a google search. Just make sure that you do enough research on each agent you send it to to make certain that:
1. they handle work in your area
2. the work that you are sending is appropriately formatted, packaged, and of a suitable length
3. they accept first time authors
You REALLY don't want to appear amateurish when you're trying to sell a first novel.
Best of luck, and well done on completing it!

If you want to throw 500 dollars by the window it will be more fun for the passers-by, you can even attract the attention of the local press whereas your e-published novel will be read by yourself and maybe your mother. Your friends will take the book, will put it on their nightstand and let it stand there until they decide to toss it away. Nobody wants to read something which they have not paid for.

I think it's the future of publishing and more and more people everyday are getting to like electronic delivery. I just purchased a PDF book that way two weeks ago. I like it! And better yet it has live links to other information. I would be really cool to link your novel to photos or drawings relating to your story. There is a whole new dimension not fully being tapped there.

I doubt you'd make much out of it. I wouldn't do it.
