I am really a fan of John Grishams novels and I would say this one was one of my favorites. It is a sad story at times, but Grisham was able to paint a fairly accurate picture of what was happening with the civil rights movements and the alienation of the African Americans during this time. There is also a movie based on this book which was also pretty good...but read the book first. You'll get lots more detail. Then watch the movie. Compare the two and see what you think! I hope you like the book. Happy Reading.

John Grisham is actually a very good writer. Well thought out ideas, good vocabulary, interesting story lines. All of this and easy to ready as well. Etc etc. A Time to Kill is definitely worth reading.

A very good novel. I've read maybe 7-8 Grisham novels and the only disappointment was, . . . . huh, can't remember the title but it was about a guy on dead row. If you want something a little different try "A Painted House." One of my favorite Grisham novels.

I've never read A Time to Kill. I'd say go along with movie ratings...I'd assume that if a movie contained a violent rape seen it would be rated R--which wouldn't be suitable for children under 17. If you follow those standards then I would say it would be inappropriate to read. That being said, at 15 you're in highschool and are learning about rape and how to prevent it/ what to do in those situations so it might not be so inappropriate. I would weigh the rape scene against the rest of the book...is that the only inappropriate part or are there others that you would also not like a 15 year old to read? Then make your decision.

Absolutely!!!! And see the movie!!! It was a great depiction of the book. The film is over 2 hours (starring Matthew McCoughnay and Samuel L. Jackson). The film leaves out a few, gory details (as most film adaptations of Grisham's book do due to length.

As a footnote, the movie contains one of Jackson's signature "yelling" lines he has now become infamous for. I think it goes a little something like this (in my best Samuel L. Jackson voice)......"Yeah I killed 'em and I hope they burn in HELL"!!!!

Awesome. Get both. Great story...very eye-opening and intriguing!

Absolutely. Not only is Grisham invariably a good read, but this one was good enough to be made into a movie.

OMG i loved this book.. i think i cried buckets at some parts too... very sad and real depiction of race relations and how cruelly a Child can be treated.... u find urself really rooting for some of the characters, even tho they themselves have vices they are fighting. i thought the movie was pretty good too but the book really handles a lot of information and plot well, reads fast altho fairly thick.

this, and jurassic park, are some of my favorite books ( i believe jp was by michael crichton)

I would recommend it. Shakespeare, it ain't. But for a page turner, Grisham is always a good choice.
