we are a group of middle age women who like mostly romance but do not want to read Steele or Nora Roberts. we like bestsellers or something with a little suspense-- has to have women involved somehow- either the author or the subject matter-and, we have already done most of Oprah's list.

I just read the book, "The Eight," by Katherine Neville, and in it she uses historical characters to interact with her fictional characters. She has one of them actually father two children with her fictional protagonist. Others are seen in a poor light. They are all people that were involved with the French Revolution. I just don't think we should create personalities for people who lived in the 18th Century when it is impossible for us to have known them.

Over the last couple years I have thought up some pretty good foundations for stories. The only problem is I have no experience on writing and once I get to a dead spot I just stop. Not to mention my grammar might not be up to par.
What are some good steps to good writing? Any good college courses that can help?

How do I protect my Stephen King Hardcover book collection? I hear people saying they their books were protected in an non-acid bag, or the likes. Is there a plastic cover or something I can use to at least slow wear and tear on the dustcover due to use and environment? If so where can I get it?

I've always wanted to write a book about wizards and magic. But now that Harry Potter is so famous, I can't write what I really want to because I feel like if I do people will just tote is as a rip-off trying to copy J.K. Rowlings success. I've already seen a bunch of 'boy wizard in magic school' type of rip-offs since Harry Potter. Is tis category dead now for future novels? Of course I know I can still write other types of fantasy and magic stories, but specifically following the life of a young wizard...is that off-limits now?
