I do. I mean an extremely mini library. Before I step into college, I was fond of collecting reference materials and textbooks probably because back then, I have yet to know what really I wanted to be, but now that I decided to be an educator particularly imajoring the English language, I have been startled by contemporary english fiction novels. Honestly, my first ever novel I have read "seriously" in english, that is, is Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code". Yup, that's a bit too late for a 17-year-old back then. But I do beleive that in life, there is nothing late if you really are eager to become what you want. So now, I am "starting" to collect novels authored by J.K. Rowling (my favorite), Nicholas Sparks, Dan Brown of course (my 2nd favorite I guess) and Lois Sachar.
Perhaps your asking why I mostly like children - young adult book - that of Rowling's and Sachar's. Isn't it not too late to reminisce childhood?
I really want to talk about my fave novel, Harry Potter series, but I think this is not the right place but in other questions.
Well, back to the library, Well, after reading the essay written by C.S. Canoningo, a writer back here in the Philippines, I was challenged to start building my private library. Canoningo said in her novel (I don't think that this is the right line huh...) "start building your private library while you are still a child. It's the treasure that will forever be yours, giving you the knowledge that will last for eternity..." Hehehe, I think that's the whole thought.
But there is this problem. Back here, books are really expensive if you ask a typical filipino. Books with hard covers range from Php1000 - 2500. That amount can buy food for a family of 3 in a week. Books with soft cover (foreign) range from Php200 - 500. That can provide food for a family of 3 in one to two days. However, if you convert that amount to US Dollars, Php2500 = US$ 50 and Php500 = $10.
So I think, that is one burden I have to overcome. Sometimes, I would think of miracles like a rich person would give some amount to buy books that I need, but I think that would be impossible.
For those who can afford to buy books in your places, use your money well. Instead of buying non sense video games or luxurious jewelries, be wise enough to buy those that will spell your success. And that for me are books. Thank's for reading...

As of the last count about 3 months ago, I've only around 600 books and growing. Im both a collector and a reader. I've read just about everything I have, destest lending them to people who dont appreciate them. I love how they look on a shelf and I have a sick fascination of rearranging them 3-4 times a year in some inane fashion no one gets. I collect antiques, books with weird titles, fiction and non fiction of all kinds, books on religion, philosophy, greco/roman myth, history and literature, Memoirs and encyclopedia's and dictionaries.

I keep every book I read, and love to grab some that are antique (I have a Town's second reader from 1848, and a children's prayer book from the early 1800's) or some that just catch my eye (such as Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical and Paranormal Experience...I got it at a yard sale for a buck, and it has some pretty interesting stuff inside)...I don't know how many books I have, my children have many, and my daughter is beginning to really love to read...she's got her own "library" going with about 30 books or so (she's eight, and loves "chapter books" like Amelia Bedilia and Superfudge).

Yes, we are in fact turning our den into a library. Our books number in the 1000s, we are a family of readers (and writers). My husband is retired military working on his teaching degree/certification (English & Math). He is also a writer seeking publication.

I have a Philosophy degree though I get paid for Software Development, so there are two categories. I love children's literature though my youngest is 12 (I homeschooled my oldest two children, now grown). Don't tell anyone but I have been known to indulge in a tawdry historical romance novel while soaking in a hot bathtub with a glass of wine (shhhh!).

The entire family reads science fiction, we all have different favorite authors. We also all read scary/horror depending on the age group of course. My husband and I read travel and histories and biographies. I can't think of a categoy that we don't read, well, yes I can but it's the one I won't mention here because my answer would get bumped!

Enough detail? =)

Yes.

My husband and I collect history books, mainly books about the Civil War, and I keep books by my favorite author and re-read them often, and I also have a collection of cookbooks!
We also have a section of classics, such as the works by Mark Twain and John Steinbeck and Jane Austen.
And I have a few inspirational books that I re-read when feeling blue, such as The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale.

The greatest library we have though for research is the Internet!

Yes, I have a library at home. I am also a librarian so I have a wide range of literature. I also have author signed books, pre published/uncorrected copies that I get at book and librarian conferences. I collect books on antiques, decorating, and children's literature.

Yeah, actually I have two. The first one is my fiction/non fiction library which is an eclectic mix of sci-fi/fantasy, horror, vampire and literature, mostly Poe, Dickens and some Bronte and Austen along with various mythology like Greek, Norse including the Volsung saga and a little Chinese and of course the newer translations of Grimm's Fairy Tales with the newly discovered story and Hans Christian Anderson.

The other library is my combination technology and reference section. It has some Dummies books, design and graphic applications and html code books along with dictionaries, thesauri and a couple of letter writing books I can't live without.

Yes , I wouldn't call it collecting. It's more like, Temporary Care Taker of Written Works. And it's kinda funny , I dont go out looking for books , they seem to find me. I call it "Universal Childs Living Library". There is always someone that crosses my path needing information , and somehow that information was in my care when there was a need.
