I remember reading it when I was a child and really enjoying it, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was called. It consisted of short stories that were on the scary side. One story I remember in particular involved a girl that wore a ribbon around her neck and in the end, when the ribbon was removed, her head fell off (or something like that). I seem to remember the art being like that of Edward Gorey (famous for his artwork at the beginning and ending credits of mystery theatre on PBS). Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance for any help!

I want a book of some sort on all the common American idioms, expressions whatever because I want to increase my knowledge. I'm a native American(meaning I was born in the USA).

Because some people in california use phrases like "shine it on" or "Hollywood's a fishbowl". I know what they mean now but still.

Suggestions?

Are there any good fantasy books that consist of one book alone, no sequels or parts 2, 3, or 17?
I have been reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time. It seems to be a never ending story and I don't want to go into a "project" reading again.

I am like obsessed with those books. Anyone else read them? Everytime I finish a Clique book and I go do something like wash the dishes, I feel like my life is so pathetic compared to theirs.

Just wondering...does anyone know what they look like? There's a picture of girls on the cover of each book and I think I figured it out. Massie is described as having "glossy brown hair" and amber eyes. Alicia is described as the Spanish beauty and long black hair and dark beautiful eyes. Kristen and Claire are supposed to look similar. Except Claire had bangs in the in-between stage and blue eyes. Dylan is a fiery red head. I don't think the people who take the Clique pictures really care. They just put a picture of pretty girls and yeah.

Isn't the 7th Clique book coming out in March 2007?

I am planning to write a story that begins with the main character being put to death for the murders of his kid daughter and wife. But he didn't do the murders. The exicution is faked and he ends up being caught in the middle of the game which the winner of the game gets his life. The game consists of criminals who's exicution was also faked. They are pitted against eachother to hunt, find, and kill one another and the last one standing will win.
Is this a good plot for a short/novel story? any suggjestions or tips would be great and get you the convented 10 points lol thanks alot guys and gals

I need a name for...

-a beautiful, cruel girl. your typical popular girl who everyone wants to be. it needs to be a name no one forgets but not too unusual.

-a mother of one daughter. she tries to be as great as a mother as she can. about in her mid-30's. she's a brunette and slim and is rich. (ex. Kendra, Lydia) has a hard-working husband.

Just to give you examples, I have a character named Carolina. She's the daughter of the mother and is attractive, but mean. she despises anyone(most of the time) except her best friends but she can be nice when she wants to be. she is spoiled and thinks mainly only about herself. though she has weaknesses, she keeps them to herself.

I have to do a report on this book-I'm a college student and it's for my Psych of Religion class. When I went to buy this book at the beginning of the semester, they were sold out. Now, I have to write a paper on the book and no one carries this book. I've called all of my bookstores around town. The paper is due on Tuesday. What should I do? I was going to order the book off of amazon or some other place but it wouldn't be here in time. I need this book by Tuesday. Any suggestions?

Can someone please explain to me this quote by Thoreau, and how one might, in good conscience, follow THoreau's suggestion?

" It is not a man's duty, as a matter of course, to devote himself to the eradication of any, even the most enormous wrong, he may still properly have other concerns to engage him, but it is his duty, at least, to wash his hands of it, and if he gives it no thought longer, not give it practically his support"

He dressess punk, acts punk, and listens to nothing but punk music. But it isn't untill he meets a girl who is the same and his oppisite at the same time that he discovers he is missing the true 'spirit' of rebellion.
