can someone please tell me how many books there are in the harry potter series. also how many are out or coming out soon

There are seven books planned to be written, but only six are out so far. The next and possibly last book is most likely to come out in the summer of 2007, but it all depends on JK Rowling. She may change her mind and add an 8th book and it has been rumored to be a book on all the things she never got to bring up in the series, but was always in the back of her mind. I wish I new the title to the seventh book, but the first six are:
Harry Potter and the Sorecerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
and the seventh one is unknown.
If you are new to the series I believe that you will find it very intriguing, but everyone has different tastes.

Altogether there will be 7 books. There are currently 6 out: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, HP and the Chamber of Secrets, HP and the Prisoner of Azbakan, HP and the Goblet of Fire, HP and the Order of the Phoenix, HP and the Half-Blood Prince. The seventh book should be coming out within the next year I believe.

Right now, there is 6. The 7th one will be published next year or sometime then. That will be the final one. Why so so many people like Harry Potter?

so far there are 6 main books. the seventh and presumably final one has yet to come out, no date has been announced that i've heard of. however, there are several books that are out ther made as if they are the text books Harry, Hermione, and Ron have. i haven't read them, but it's a cute idea to write their textbooks too.
