please explain to me when i should use
"if i were to do something"
and when i should use
"if i was to do something"
basically i need to know what's the difference between "if i was" and "If i were" (or theoretically for if he/she was, he/she were, and so on)

Could someone tell me a few books that mention John Lennon as being a feminist. I have found one book over the enternet, but Barnes and Noble does not carry it.

Based on that poem, why are the angels envious of Edgar Allen Poe and his love, Annabell Lee? Could they even be envious? Really think on it, and give your interpretation.

okay, here's 2 variants, tell me which variant is grammatically better and what is wrong with the other (if anything) or if nothing is wrong, why did you make your choice..
(1)if i were there, i could have done it
(2)if i had been there, i could have done it
if i were there, i would have done it
if i had been there, i would have done it

I have already Writen the First Chapter of a Novel, and i am really proud of it. I have heard so many people say that it is important to outline most of the novel, I have looked eveywhere on the internet and i cant find an advice that fits other than carry around a small notebook and write down ideas in it...So far i have had it for a month and i have five ideas, sad i know.

I mentioned this to my high-school lit teacher (when I was in high school), and she laughed at my suggestion, acted like I was being a pervert. I think he was referring to the lead character's...uh...injury, in an offhand way. Isn't it possible?

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door
