When I wrote my novel, I did the editing myself. I put the book aside for a few weeks, then read it through and marked up the manuscript one page at a time. Then I went through and made the changes on the computer.

When my novel was accepted for publication they did some editing, and I went through it one more time myself.

If you really feel you must have an 'outside' editor, you can search the Internet and find one if you are willing to pay the price. Most writers are quite capable of editing their own work before sending it off to the publishers to look at.

hi, i would recommend that you go to this link
http://www.lulu.com/browse/index.php?fCatId=106&fOffset=0&fSearch=&fSort=&fTagsSelected=6256&fLanguage=&fCountry=0
Lulu are actually a self-publishing company, but their service providors (editors, covers design, formatters) will work on your book even if you then dont want to self-publish with them. I published a book with Lulu, they are great, if you want to self-publish i would definately recommend them. They are free.
Regarding the service providers, there are some there for very reasonable prices, and the service provider i used was very friendly and helpful. I believe i used the service provider with number 1 ranking.
Hope this helps, i would definatly check them out.
Cheers, Deanna

Like The Gadfly, I also have books published and will sometimes do editing for others. Is this your first book?
Beware of those who charge $500+ for editing your entire book. They rarely do more than the first ten pages.

You can try a vanity press, which will edit the book for a price. 1st Books is a vanity press. You can google "vanity press" or "publishers." Or, you can try to sell your book to a publishing agency. If they buy it, they'll edit it and sell it for you. Try the Writer's Market guidebook. It's available in most major book chains and on amazon.com
