Probably won't help you now, but the ship delivers the slaves to market, the boy gets paid and dropped off at him home port and his mother was very glad to see him again. She thought he was dead. I don't remember much, it has been forever since I read the book and it is in storage. That is if the book you were reading is the one by Paula Fox.
