Mirror

I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions.
Whatever I see I swallow immediately
Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.
I am not cruel, only truthful ‚
The eye of a little god, four-cornered.
Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall.
It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long
I think it is part of my heart. But it flickers.
Faces and darkness separate us over and over.

Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me,
Searching my reaches for what she really is.
Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon.
I see her back, and reflect it faithfully.
She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands.
I am important to her. She comes and goes.
Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness.
In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman
Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

Some say life is about kicking *** of the evil, some say it's about kissing *** of the evil. Tried both, and even living in peace. But none brought any satisfaction to me. And wouldn't will bring to the world. Want to know the difference between good and evil. I am 18 years old. I used to be a fun loving person till age of 17. But because of some incidences my mind changed and I headed towards sprituality. I am searching for a cause to live for. Help me in finding the real aim.

help me analyze this verse by Alexander Pope:

FROM THE ESSAY OF MAN:

1. Hope springs eternal in the human breast:
Man never is but always to be blest.
Epistle 11. 95-96

2. Vice is a monster of so frightful mien,
As to be hated needs but to be seen;
Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face,
We first endure, then pity, then embrace.
Ibid., 11. 217-220

3. Honor and shame no condition rise;
Act well your part, there all the honor lies.
Epistle IV, 11. 193-194
4. A wit's a feather, and a chief a rod;
An honest man is the noblest work of God.
Ibid. 11. 247-248

i'm buying oil paints and brushes and possibly canvas as a christmas present for someone that i'm currently dating. i was wondering what the best brand of oil paint is and about how much does it cost, as well as with the brushes.

i have somwhat of a limited fund of money at the moment but i'll do just about anything to get those paints.

also, how many colors would be suggested if the person does landscapes? i know that if there's a river or a lake or something of the sort they usually use the same blue for the sky, if that's of any help.

How many of you feel that the poems being posted here are from those knowledgeable in the art and craft of poetry?

Are the poetry posters that are currently posting here now, looking for real critiques and comments or are they just looking for ES’ers?

Do you feel that poets residing on this site, will be able to guide, assist and direct the unknowing into the knowing of the beautiful art and craft of written literature?
If so do you feel that they will be honored and respected for their guidance and knowledge?

No, this is not the ever-present "I need to add color" question.

When converting a color image to B&W, my images, even if they have great contrast, lack it in the conversion. What's wrong? An example is portraits. I take a great contrast portrait, then convert it to B&W. The subject looks "muddy."

If at all possible, please tell me what I'm doing wrong. And, if you could suggest a way without using Photoshop CS3/CS2. All I have to work with is PictureProject Software. I know this is not much, but if I had $600 to spend on photography, I would go for a nice lens, not a program.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know what he actually did that benefited his empire. What did he actually DO? Or was he just a megalomaniac who liked to indulge in pointless bloodletting?

I just reread 'The Great Escape' and it suddenly hit me that they had made around 250 compasses, all with 'Made in Stalag Luft III' on the bottom. Not only did only 76 get out, but they were only planning for around 220 anyways. So what happened to all the compasses? They didn't just throw them away. I half expected to find some on eBay for ridiculous amounts, but nothing. I know they stored them down Dick, and Dick was never found. So? Anybody got one?
