Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the globe on a privateering venture before the Spanish Armada defeat in 1588. His three year trip was in 1577-1580 to be precise. He started with five ships. Only one, the Golden Hind" was left at the finish of the 36,000 mile voyage He and his crew were the first English to "Roam around the World."
