I read a lot, but I've never read a literature book. I'm Mexican, and I teach Spanish to Americans for a living.
I'm fluent in 6 languages; I'm addicted to language books. I have my room full of grammar-exercise books in Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, English, French, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Nahuatl (Aztec.)
I've had such a passion for grammar; I wrote and got 2 books locally published to learn Spanish.
I studied business, not English. But because I opened my own language school and got books published, I know many people who studied English or Literature as their major. They all kinda snob me because I don't know anything about the stupid books they are reading.
But I read A LOT, I just hate fiction. I love to read biography books of people who got rich, business books, how-to-do books, and world-history books. I think I read just as much as those people.

Just because I've never read any of the classics, or because I hate literature.

Does that make me a non-reader?

On the one hand more people have more things that make life easier like reasonable housing, electricity, transport, running water, etc and a whole range of gadgets that we seem to use but would somone from 100 years ago or even 500 years ago look at much of modern life and see a lot of alienation, loneliness and depression, etc and overall see people whose lives he or she would not envy? Is society improving for some and not others maybe and if so, is the general question ie everyone's welfare and progress harder to answer with a simple 'yes' or 'no' ?

Does being in a social context change the way you think or act? (beyond mere perfunctory gestures of manner)

Even online in a forum like Y!A, did you act differently when you had complete annonymity compared to when you have online 'friends' and 'contacts' watching. C'mon be honest now.

Is a little bit of 'rudeness' required to maintain your individuality and complete honesty?

pick ur best last sentance!
1.Harry smiled down at his week-old daughter; she had her mother's red hair, but her father's green eyes and even a faint birthmark that looked exactly like his famous lightning-bolt scar. -xothebestox
2.The portrait of the famous Harry Potter hung in the entrance hall of Hogwarts (with a view of the Quidditch pitch, so that he could watch year after year of Gryffindor championships) and sometimes the bravest students who snuck out onto the grounds for a night of adventure, would hear words of advice from the man who was made famous by his lightning-bolt scar.

3.Harry looked at himself in the mirror and, smiling, laid down his eyes on the spot of his forehead where there had once been a scar. -alex

It is dishonest because, the Answerer who does this rarely answers the Q asked in a meaningful truthful way. It is illogical because it makes your A sound monsensical or illogical or both and no Q is ever asked with that intent by a sane person. Example you ask a Q about pornography and the Answerer accuses you of being a pornographer. More generally you ask about X and that results in an accusation that you do X otherwise you would not have asked about X. You ask a Q about racism and you are accused, ipso facto ,of beind a racist. You ask a Q about illegal immigrants and automatically you are one or you love one etcetera, etcetera.

Plato & his teacher Socrates saw through this fallacious form of reasoning the one that clever sophists and lawyers use to put down all who simply ask Q' s seeking **meaningful, logical ,nonfallacious, sound and valid Answers.**
