I like books like A Million Little Pieces where the guy has problems and such. Really grusom. I like those.

If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -
1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin
2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker
These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.
Fiction?
Try all the books written by Clive Cussler.
The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These are well-written.

Stephen King if you like Horror but not all of his books are in that genre. Try Eyes of the Dragon or Rose Madder or The Talisman. They are great reads that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Kelley Armstrongs "women of the underworld" is a great series. It starts with Bitten and Stolen.
Also, her new book recently came out. When her publisher told her it would be in hardback, she told her fans on her website that anyone who sends a reciept for buying it, would get a thank you package from her. Autographed book plate, book marks, pen, etc....it was awesome.

too bad that guy admitted his story wasn't true like he claimed. I don't like gruesome, my mom reads books about true murders & such. *shudder*
