ok then. let me suggest a really good book. its called 'house'. its one of the best books ive read. there are two authors: ted dekker and frank peretti. whatever you do, just dont let anything you read about it turn you away. its SOOO GOOD!

The book covers the events that take place one night in a Victorian inn located in rural Alabama, where two couples and the owners, a family of three, find themselves locked inside by a homicidal maniac, who claims that he has killed God and threatens to murder them all, unless they can produce the dead body of one of their own by dawn. Things are further complicated when they enter the basement and are trapped in a maze of shifting rooms, black smoke, and betrayal. During the night they all discover the evils that lurk deep inside each of them and how it has affected them their whole lives.

I also love Dean Koontz, From the Corner of His Eye is amazing. I also love King, Different Seasons was a great read.

You sould maybe try some Graphic novels by the likes of Alan Moore or Frank Miller.

Oh and I pose this question to you, when is Frankenstein part 3 coming out?

You should love Peter Straub. If you haven't already, you should definitely read his books. I think he's at least as good as King, sometimes better. You could start with Floating Dragon. If you like S. King, you should love it. Have you read The Talisman and Black House that Straub co-wrote with King? Really good stuff.

Also, try Clive Barker's Coldheart Canyon. Barker is the guy that wrote the Hellraiser movies (at least the first one and I think 2 or 3 more). He's really good and scary, but sometimes a little fantasy-esque, which might not be what you want. So, start with Coldheart Canyon. You should really love that one.

Have you read H.P.Lovecraft? He's a classic horror writer and possibly my favorite. His imagery is like reading a nightmare, very intense. Try Dagon, or anything by him really. His short stories are great.

I know there are a lot of really bad horror writers out there! I'm sure you'll be very happy with any one of these. Enjoy.

Read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It is a compelling and frightening post-apocalyptic vision of life in America lived by a father and son trying to survive. It's scarier than anything Stephen King has ever written. But there is a thread of hope woven into it as well. Also try The Lovely Bones if you haven't read that yet. I forget who wrote it. It's a great read too.

If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -

1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin

2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker

These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.

Fiction?

Try all the books written by Clive Cussler.

The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These are well-written.

Try Joe Hill - Heart Shaped Box. He reads like King. Also try John Twelve Hawks - The Traveler. He has another book due out soon.

Richard Laymon is generally quite good, but for a hard hitting read that you wont want to put down its got to be Shaun Hutson, he is a British writer and is excellent for horror (early books) and in the last few years has turned more towards "urban thrillers".
I personally would recommend Captives or Lucy's child for horror, or Exit wounds for a more recent thriller. But saying that I've never read a book of his that I could put down before the last page!

Deb Caletti or Stephenie Meyer.

Deb Caletti writes in a way I cannot describe! She puts alot of detail into the characters thoughts and takes you back through their memories and relates them to so many things that you would not think possible. She is also very funny! If you like comedy, drama, and some romance then Deb Caletti is for you. My personal favorite would be "Honey, Baby, Sweetheart" or "The Nature of Jade"

Stephenie Meyer is my top favorite. There is no one to compare to her writing! She is working on a series about a girl who meets a vampire. If you like adventure, drama and romance then Stephenie Meyer is for you.

These authors are similar in genre and style. Each is very good in his own way. Most of the authors above are not that similar to King.

Dean Koontz
Peter Straub
