Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

I have everything except the last part of the last sentence:

"....And so as Suzy-Q and Ahmed played Twister outside beneath the tombstone where Uncle Scrotum was buried, a dark forbidding mist moved in from the north, forcing Suzy-Q to remember her affair with the vampire and the other happy days and she whispered to Ahmed quietly, "___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________"

I'm not looking for the meaning in the dictionary or what you have to show from an encyclopedia...I wanna know people's opinions on it. What is Philosophy to you?

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow

I think that the reason for living is to become an individual and to decide on what you like and dislike so that you can then go on to create your own lucid-dream-like reality after you die. What do YOU think? Of my theory and your own?

I am almost 14 and most people consider me a genious. I have already graduated highschool taking every advanced placement class imaginable. My knowledge of mathematics, science, and technology is amazing and is growing with every waking minute I have. My ultimate goal in life is to make the world a different place for better or for worse. I have future plans in which the general population would consider "evil", but I will do anything to change this planet. I want to see how powerful the human brain is, and how far human potential can take me. If I succeed, this world will indeed will be a diferent place in about 20 years. Is it evil to see what a single organism can achieve, to see how far we can go?

As a civilized society do we use information gathered in this way in an effort to save lives or due to the way the information was gathered do we destroy the data even at the risk of other lives? And would you feel different if it was one of your loved ones who would be helped by this data and how about if one of your loved ones was the victim?

What I really appreciate is an active use of the language itself to produce effects and mood. Poems with meter, rhyme, alliteration, etc. It's cool. A concrete example would be Poe's Raven. It seems like every contemporary poem is a morose rambling. It has it's place, but it's like if all you had to listen to was techno . . . Does anyone know of any good contemporary poets who still use these devices? Blank verse? Anything?

I marvelled at a piece at the Tate Modern entitled 'Artists Sh!t* by Piero Manzoni. Apparently he pooped in ninety cans, sealed them up, numbered them and sold them as art. I thought this was ironic as people were literally buying sh!t. Har har har, but thought it would be more interesting if there was actually nothing in the can.

Yesterday I read that the artist admitted this week, that indeed there is just plaster inside. He claimed he was exposing the "gullibility of the art-buying public" and that the idea had come out of frustration with the art establishment who he described as "bourgeoisie b******'s".

I think this is absolutely hilarious, but that it actually makes the art more interesting because of the irony of it all.

The Tate paid £22.5K for the can.

Amazing - what are your thoughts? Is the work pure genius, or just a load of s**t? ;-)

Someone posted a question referring to the 'piltdown man' - which I promptly googled and was intrigued to learn something new.

Anyone else got some little gems? Always good to learn new things.... Perhaps we can all learn something new today.

My interesting fact is, that in nearly every species of mammal, the female outlives the male... Rock on sistas!

Have a great day!
