Soldier's Legacy

A metal of valor, sparkling gold,
A soldiers helmet, blood stained and old.
A picture of my father, the day before he died,
My own swollen heart, full of depression and pride.
He fought on the front line, day after day,
while I'd neal at his picture, cry and pray.
He fought for freedom, for his daughter and wife,
and for his country, as well as his life.
What do you call it, when a soldier has to fight,
fight for his family, freedom and right?
They say that a man will always return after the war
but only a box of poems comes knocking at your door. Letters he wrote, and letters he kept,
stained and wrinkled from tears that he wept.
His certificate returns in the hands of a man,
dirty, injured, and sun bitten tan.
He seems to have a lot of certificates in that car,
but this one gripped my heart and left a scar. (second stanza below)

new poem just made up about something deep with little explination... what do you think?
warrior with no enemy

I am a warrior
with no enemy
I am a soldier
an I shall be me

I ain't afraid you
and I ain't afraid of life
I ain't afraid of what I do
and I carry no knife

I fight for something
I fight no body
I have nothing
and I shall be me

I have a past
and I can see
but this contrasts
why I shall be me

I have a future
that I cannot see
I am no butcher
I have become me

I'm writing a short story just for fun and practice. It takes place in Ancient Egypt and its about a man named Mastaba who builds tombs for the wealthy whom he charges an outrageous fee and then proceeds to loot the tomb the night after the funeral. This paragraph is from the part where he is at the funeral of one of his clients and he remarks about the rich people who he hates. I showed it to someone and they said it was in bad taste to write about sex and death. What do you think? I’m also considering dropping some of the bigger words.

They don’t mourn the loss of the dead but the brevity of their own limited mortalities. In their selfishness they wish to preserve their own lives but even they, as brainless as they are, realize it to be a futile effort. So if they cannot save their own lives they believe they can at least create new life. The women cry their lustful lamentations and the men coo and coddle them in their misplaced ardor. Then they look upon the dead with selfish sensibility and reflect on the celibate eternity he is forced to endure. A funeral Mastaba concluded was merely a generator for mournful copulation. Who knew death would prove to be such a powerful aphrodisiac?

Thanks!!

There's one thing I don't get. As we all know, the Bible is full of misogyny.

Some people say that the reason for women being discriminated in religion and in today's life is the fact that they were the ones who started the sin so they were basically the origin of the sin. But if God decided to punish women for Eva's actions only after Eva sinned, then why does God (who existed before Eva and Adam even came into the picture) has always been called a He? My point is that the fact that God fulfills the role of a male entity (even if He only does it with His name) goes to show that this discrimination against women has always existed and has no reason. If God would have given equal rights to both sexes and would have been truly fair as the Bible says, then He wouldn't have been called a He, He would have been a combination of both sexes. The appellative leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
