Yea! I also play the violin and I always get nervous before a performance. I once had a big solo in front of like over 400 people and I was shaking even an hour before I had to play! I got over it once I started playing, It's weird it like just went away just like that!

It happens to everybody. A musician that doesn't get nervous is a rare breed. But remember, if you make a mistake, don't get all upset about it. Mistakes are the reality of live performance. Usually when I perform a piece, the part I screw up is a part I have never messed up once, and I nail the part I was worried about. It's just real life.

I also do, more especially in front of music people: others going to college as music majors. I don't think it ever totally goes away, but there are things that you can do to help you be more calm at least. Before beginning, make sure to let out a deep breath. Breathing out helps to remove the tensions in your body. You could also have a kind of relaxation technique that you could use to help you so that you don't get tense. I think this is a problem for almost every musician at least at some points in their life, and it is one that every good musician needs to figure out some way of handleing.

I always get nervous before I play piano! My hands start to get sweaty and shake, so the first couple of notes I play can sometimes be wrong. Once I get going though, I calm down, and start playing fairly well the rest of the way.

Yes, I definitely do, and I have been performing on wind instruments and singing for over 16 years! I don't think the nervousness ever goes away, but it's definitely gotten better for me. One thing that helps me, if possible, is to be able to practice in the space that you're going to perform in beforehand. Then you know what you're going to sound like, and you know what adjustments you might have to make.

I don't play music, but I dance, and I get nervous before dance concerts. Take a few deep breathes and keep positive, no "I'm gonna blow it! I'm gonna blow it! . . . " :-)
