One of my friends plays the keyboard and writes most of the music for his band, and I want to give him something which'll help him with it. I can only think of blank sheet music pages and maybe some blank CDs on which to record the songs, but those seem trite and a wee bit boring. Is there anything else that I can give him, maybe a bit more special or personal?

I'm currently writing my master's thesis on the road in the US. I want to explore its mythical status with roots back to the first settlers and the 'frontier thesis' (how the American was moulded on the frontier). I also plan on looking at Route 66 and explain how it has added to the myth of the road. Finally, I intend to look at road movies and explain how they keep the myth of the road alive.
I'm not from the US myself, and therefore I'm interested in getting in touch with 'real' Americans who would like to share their thoughts on the road with me. Is the road still mythical? Why/why not? Have you ever been on a road trip - or do you intend to go? What does the road symbolize to you (both the road in general and Route 66)? Do you think the road is part of the American national identity? Or only the whites' identity? Is it possible to find personal identity on the road as portrayed in many road movies? Please explain to me what the road means to you as a person and a people. Thanks

I was watching Magnolia and I had to explain the Deus Ex Machina bit at the end. When she complained about that being the worst form of ending ever, I said I could name three that were worse.
Here are my two, but I need a third....
1) It was all a dream, i've hated this ending since I was 4 and saw the Wizard of Oz.
2) Deus Ex Coupland. A variation of Deus Ex Machina, Douglas Coupland uses it in Jpod, suddenly the author himself shows up, then everything is okey dokey. Bum owes me an ending, it's not as if the rest of his books had good endings anyways.

Vlad, a son of hereditary underlords in the Moldovan Region Ukraine, sought to keep his people free from the rule and interference of the Turk's and Catholic Church. He saw them as Slave maker's of his people . While away on a mission (border defense), political enemies in his kingdom sought out his wife, and convinced her that Vlad had been murdered, and that his killer's were on their way to the castle to murder her. Determined to die free, she jumped from the castle height's.

Upon his return, Vlad was grief stricken, and took immediate revenge. Once that task was gruesomely accomplished, Vlad sought out the Priest to perform a majestic burial for his bride. The priest refused, telling Vlad she was a suicide, and would never be fit for Catholic burial, or a place in God's reward. Vlad vowed to never again step foot in a church. Often, he punished priest's he found lacking in moral's they should've been exemplar's of.
What was the name of Vlad's bride?

Does this story represent world war 2?Is the one ring suppose to be nuclear power that every one is scrambling to get?Do the elves represent the Americans who leave after the war?I love to read, but i did not read these books until late because when i was 10 ,a boy suggested them as something that I might like, but because he was younger I thought they were childrens books. Also, does anyone think that Harry Potter can compare?

"what would you do if the world was perfect...and there was no poverty, and everyone was equal."
"wouldn't it be great if there was equality and no war or hate and nothing but love"

I hate questions like those...I would like people who agree and disagree about the world being perfect and so on, really think about it and ask themselves do they really believe the world should be perfect or not....I did the same and I think it would be incredibily boring...stupid and pointless to live if there was no poverty,war,hate...simply because I like obsticals and conquring those around me. To be able to prove I am worth something or different from others, I could not accomplish in a perfect world. So tell me what you think. Do you really want the world to be perfect...atleast near perfect?
