Vlad, a son of hereditary underlords in the Moldovan Region Ukraine, sought to keep his people free from the rule and interference of the Turk's and Catholic Church. He saw them as Slave maker's of his people . While away on a mission (border defense), political enemies in his kingdom sought out his wife, and convinced her that Vlad had been murdered, and that his killer's were on their way to the castle to murder her. Determined to die free, she jumped from the castle height's.

Upon his return, Vlad was grief stricken, and took immediate revenge. Once that task was gruesomely accomplished, Vlad sought out the Priest to perform a majestic burial for his bride. The priest refused, telling Vlad she was a suicide, and would never be fit for Catholic burial, or a place in God's reward. Vlad vowed to never again step foot in a church. Often, he punished priest's he found lacking in moral's they should've been exemplar's of.
What was the name of Vlad's bride?

***some believe this is where the church invented the myth that Dracul repulsed by the cross and/or holy water.

##### my apologies, Erik..it was my understanding that Vlad inherited the title Dracul from his Father by right, and that it had been bestowed on his Father by the overlords. In fact, from what I had read, it was the other way around...most people attribute the first Dracul's bloodthirsty acts, incorrectly, to his son...please inform if otherwise...this is a matter of family pride...

His first wife? Wikipedia says : "His first wife, whose name is not recorded, died during the siege of his castle in 1462." ("Vlad III the Impaler : In captivity", Wikipedia)

Encyclopedia Britannica doesn't say anything about any of his wives.

I checked a few family trees of the voivodes of Wallachia, and discovered that Vlad III, and all his forefathers, and his son carry the mention "and an unknown spouse". Only starting with his grandson Mircea III we see a named spouse : Despina, Princess of Moldavia.

(And do not confuse Vlad III Tepes "The Impaler" (died 1477), with his father Vlad II Dracul "The Devil" (died 1446)! Vlad II Dracul received his title "Dracul" ("dragon", "demon", "devil") from his induction into the Order of the Dragon. Vlad III was nicknamed Drăculea ("Son of Dracul") by the Romanians, and only was called "Ţepeş" ("the Impaler") after his dead.)
