What is your opinion on religion? So many to choose from, how do we know what is right and how do we know others are wrong?

p.s. this is a theory question. It has nothing to do with my religious affiliation.

We do not have a moral obligation to any religion. We do have a moral obligation to that which is beneficial. We also have a moral obligation against that which is not beneficial.

The question may be asked, 'What is beneficial?' This can be determined quite easily by using a practical and evident example. That which is not beneficial thwarts and destroys life and growth. That which is beneficial contributes to and creates life. Eating: Eating good food contributes to life. Eating bad food and poisonous food thwarts life. The argument against this could be that of masochism. Masochism can be seen as an idea that the thwarting and degradation of the self is pleasurable. We are not talking of pleasure, but moral obligation on an absolute level.

We do not have a moral obligation to any religion, as religion is our, flawed, manifestation of our commitment to that which is beneficial. Religion is the manifestation of 'faith' which is the believers route to fulfil the obligation, the structure within which the believer operates to fulfil their conviction that there is a moral and an absolute truth upon which existence is based. Faith is the absolute upon which every person who has the conviction operates from. Religion can help to thwart or bring about the fulfilment of faith

I would certainly avoid using the words moral obligation in any terms except for those prescribed by law or society. Obligation is "something by which a person is bound or obliged to do certain things, and which arises out of a sense of duty or results from custom, law, etc." (dictionary.com).

Therefore, unless you live in a culture or society where you are bound, most likely by law, then you have no obligation to the religion.

Now, if you wish to determine if in order to be ethically moral, one must practice religion, assuming it is ideal for all humans to be moral, then my answer is no. Although religion invariably serves as an effective moral guide, it is not the only path, and therefore is only needed if the individual so desires. The only moral obligation one has to religion is one vowed by the individual, since that person has declared the promise themselves.

Evolution teaches survival of the fittest! So does God!

The ones that are like vultures or eagles and have excellent spiritual vision and thus find the carcass of Christ will survive.

Jesus stated about religions that they should be compared to fruit trees. Just like on a tree -- when one fruit from the tree is sour, we know all the rest of the fruits on that tree to be sour -- no good! and vice versa!

Thus religions Christian and otherwise that promote killing, wars, and other Biblical prohibited activity are somewhat easily recognized.

Christians are supposed to not be part of this world -- that is, their allegiance is to God's kingdom, not to some earthly nation.

Another point pertains to dogma. A Christian religion to be 'good' must follow the truth as taught not by the church, but by the Bible! This is not complied to by any religion on earth yet!

Finally, it must also (especially in this time of the end) promote preaching the gospel. (Matt 24:14) There are scriptures connecting each Christians salvation to their declaring of the gospel. (see Christian Good Works HP
http://bythebible.page.tl/Christian-Good-Works.htm )

Unfortunately, at this moment in time, all churches lack sadly in accurate knowledge and in a serious effort to gain such!

All religions have it right, to the extent that they all agree. All religions have it wrong to the extent that they disagree.

No religion has any reason to disagree with another, since they all deal with topics beyond human jostling. When religious groups get into arguments, something depressingly human is going on.

There is nothing wrong with your religion. Just don't use it to hit others.

Of the 5,000 or so organized religions of the world, how do you pick numero uno, especially knowing the concept of gods, goddesses, angels and devils were first promulgated by our ignorant barbarian ancestors around 100,000 years ago to explain their unknown universe.

(ps, the 100,000 years ago figure coincided with the dates ceremonial burials first appeared among our ancestors, which most anthropologists believe were the beginnings of the belief in an afterlife and supernatural deities.)

first of all...i agree with the first answerer.

secondly, all religions are based upon a particular faith. and faith cannot be one...and cannot be interpreted as one. they may have many dimensions of only one meaning...but all faiths have a different path...which leads to one destination...so there is no question of any one of them being right and the other being wrong.

and choosing from different religions...that's a personal choice...choose a religion which appeals to you the most.

but in my personal opinion....your own beliefs,,,your own principles...your own conscious is the soul religion you have. that's a religion which you should never disown.

Religion is a dangerous game. It should be banned and made illegal. Its about time the countries of our unstable world stopped running on religions that are outdated and contradictory. The only result of it all is war. There should be a revolution!

this question is confusing w/out details.
As a specie, we have obligations (genetics). whether they're moral obligations probably depends on the cuclture. But, I think your obligations as a person would span all religions.

Love for all, tolerance & selflessness is real relegion & love for God. He does not care what language or culture u follow, what temple or mosque or church u go, what really matters to him is how Humane are you.

for all we know every religion is wrong... but, again, every could be right in it only way. We just don't know. SO if your going to pick a faith at all pick the one that feels right too you.
