Whats the name of the book that depicts, in a humorous way, the imperial nature of both superpowers England and France when they were carving up Europe between them... A well used illustration depicts Europe as a Turkey with two nationalities represented as soldiers at a table carving it for themselves.

There are many more of these which make the book superb, I am looking for either the book's title or the illustrator. The book has had positive separate reviews in national newspapers here in the UK a short time ago, when it was released.

I have inherited a genealogical tree of my family which was greated by a British genealogist. Most of the names are followed by "b" which I can interpret as meaning "born" (b. 1784) and some also have "d" which must be the date of death. But many have "fL" (fL 1871). This only seems to occur when there is no date of death. Can anyone tell me what "fL" stands for?

I read about the topic in a magazine called "Smart Photography" (in India) where the writer ridiculed the argument made by a few painter folk that photography in itself is an "un-artistic art" because it uses modern technology (camera, image manipulation software etc.) to illustrate the artist's creativity saying that brush, paint ans canvas etc. are external (modern scientific) aids too.

I see this as an endless debate. Your views are welcome.

Is painting a "higher" form of art than photography?

For examples, person lost a limb, got decapitated, body got blown up in half, head splattered, or something that gory. Not that I'm a psychopath or anything. It just makes me wonder after seeing some disturbing gory pictures online before. How do they prepare such a corpse for a funeral?

In God's eyes we are all children and we learn from each other. Is it not that we all have sinned and come short of His Glory, and it is up ,to all individuals to make these changes, Nor is anyone at fault, Nor any Government to blame, For these much needed changes that will help everyone not only to better ourselves as well ,for our children's childrens and their future!

My memory of this book is very vague but I will try to describe it to you. The heroin is a young girl (between 10 and 14, I'm guessing). She finds out that her grandfather invented something to allow him to see into the future and he saw a lot of suffering for humanity. he built a lot of robots who were supposed to get rid of the suffering but by doing so he eliminates the future of humanity completely. Seeing that the robots are going to take control, he tells his grandaughter she must stop them, and in order to do that she must undergo some surgery, possibly to become a robot herself so that she will live long enough to stop them. She has her spine and brain removed from her body and supplanted into the robot's body. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

As part of a university project I want to sum up the onlookers/readers view of Kurt Vonnegut, in either a piece of jewellery (and yes I know its very unlikely he would be interested in ornamentation!) or a piece of small metal ware.

I'm thinking maybe focusing on the story line of one of his books, an aspect of his personality, or views on politics e.g. on George Bush etc... What do you think?

What's most interesting about him in your opinion???

It's a Holocaust book that I read in probably middle school... I don't know the author even. But, it's about this younger girl who is living with her grandparents in Poland maybe. Then, the Nazis come and take them away. The book focuses mainly on the train ride over there and how brutal it is. I think one of the main characters die on the train... the grandma perhaps...? It ends with them arriving at the camp, getting separated, and then with them going to the showers that are really gas chambers. I know this is pretty vague, and a lot of Holocaust books are probably similiar, but any help is appreciated, because I haven't been able to think of it for years! :) Thanks!

I must do a poem with this words: simphony, butterfly, fog, fade, jade. Can you correct this? I have done: it's like the water- a formless wonder - it's like the butterfly - a timeless simphony -it's like a jade -a color not able to fade -that in the fog - filters whole hog
