The house we own now was my late mothers home..in which she rented from 1958...we would like to know, and how we can get more info..whom the house was built by, and who lived there.

You can also check with the local historical society. Older people in your community may also know some things, like who once lived there. I am sure you will find interesting stories there.

Try some of the above ideas.
If you still can't find out, most century houses have a joist in the attic carved with a 'symbol' of the builder's name. Kind of like a branded cattle. Since there are so many unfinished surfaces in the attic, that's normally where it was put....
For more information, either look in the bookstore or search the library for a book called simply 'Old Houses'. If you can or can't find any more information on this, please submit a new question and let us know where your house IS, if you're comfortable with that.
And be careful in that attic. If you haven't been up there in a while, you may come face to face with some startled animals that won't want to pay their back rent!

If you have a mortgage it should be on the land registry which the Building Society may have a copy off. I saw the ones for my old property once but it didnt have much on it. Did tell me who the builder was and who the others were who owned or had a mortgage on the property. It was very basic. Try looking through you papers to do with your purchasing the house as that is how I came across mine.
Or you can try and look for the land registry yourself I believe they may have a website but couldnt find it doing a quck search.

Title search the property. A title company will do a free search if you ask properly. There mayt not be any records. Find the old lady down the street

If you own it,the history of who owned it will be on the deeds which unless you have bought it,is held by your bank or building soc.

You have to file with the city or county when you build a house. Your courthouse should have information.
