Why are people prejudiced against other people based on sexual preference, race, religion, gender, and any other type you can think of?

Prejudice is NOT an inherent part of a human being. Small children accept ALL people at face value.

The fact is, sad to say, that prejudice of all kinds is LEARNED from family members, 'friends', (learned) institutions, etc.

The good news: YOU can choose not to forward prejudicial ideas to others and you can choose to realize that prejudice has NO place in a peaceful world.

One reason is ignorance or our upbringing. Some people also have problems with a few persons of a certain race, and then make sweeping judgments based on their bad experiences with a few individuals. Sexual preference and religion are different, imo, however. Religion should be a rational enterprise, When it is not, one has a time bomb on his hands. But there are even problems when people manifest rationality, as evidence by the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Christians thus say that "sin" is the root cause of all these difficulties. I tend to agree.

because little children are taught that! if you encourage diversity in a small childs life,,, and encourage acceptance of others no matter if they are different,,, then they will not be prejuidice, in fact they will find odd situations where there is not diversity,,,,, for example, my daughter was born and spent her first few years in a very mixed environment, then for a little while when she was 4 we lived in a mostly white neighborhood,,,, i really hadnt noticed it, or thought about it,, didnt live there to be exclusive, it was just where we found a home when we moved to a new state,,, then a few months later, when we happened to be in a resturant in the city ,keep in mind she had just turned 4 years old, she told me,,,, mom this looks right, i asked what, she said look around,,, all the different people,,,, this is the way the world is,,,, i said yes, many types of people, she had been concerned about where we were living, even though we were white and lived in a white area,,,, she didnt understand what had happened to all the other children there, the black ones, other racial types etc,,,,,,,,, this all came out in this one resturant conversation, lol she had noticed and been concerned that, at the pool, the library play group etc, some types of children were missing, and she didnt know what they did with them!

This type of bigotry is rampant in the old testament. It's not wonder so-called religious types see them selves as moral authority, judge, jury and at times even executioner.

Because the collective brainwashing has done its job and someone is benefiting from it somewhere somehow. Jellousy and believing to "hype" are also quite common reasons.

It's easier to believe dogmatic bullshit than to actually put in the effort to learn about people.
