As part of a university project I want to sum up the onlookers/readers view of Kurt Vonnegut, in either a piece of jewellery (and yes I know its very unlikely he would be interested in ornamentation!) or a piece of small metal ware.

I'm thinking maybe focusing on the story line of one of his books, an aspect of his personality, or views on politics e.g. on George Bush etc... What do you think?

What's most interesting about him in your opinion???

Ok, well this is going to sound rather random, but I think if you want to sum up a reader's view of KV in a "small metal ware", the best one to use would be a paper clip. It is absurb, yet useful, and also provokes thought. If you take his personality and try to fit it to the attributes of a paper clip, I think you would be mostt surprised at the similarities. Good luck!

I like the paperclip answer from Jill ... yet, I think more absurdity is needed to fully represent Vonnegut's wit and basic nihilistic outlook on humankind's future.

A slinky, stretched out to form a necklace could work. I wouldn't cut the slinky down either. It should be too long to wear. Thus, you'll make a useless pop-culture object even more useless. Since Vonnegut views pop-culture as a diversion to keep the masses from noticing cultural issues that actually matter, I think this would be a project in keeping with V's essential meaning.

Alternatively, a pair of earrings would work ... just cut the slinky in half and stretch away.

I only re-study 2 of his books, Timequake, and Galopogas. They have been much greater valuable than i'd remembered them. once I study the information of his loss of life this morning, I felt like a loved one participants had died. He became right into a best author, and a actual American logician. he would be ignored. some thing that I only remembered approximately him became into that, in the 70s, a youthful guy who became into then in extreme college wrote to him that he theory all of Vonnegut's books must be summed up as "while all else fails, love prevails". Kurt Vonnegut's reaction became into some thing to the end result that if the child had only informed him previously, he would have only sent a telegram incredibly than writing all those books.

By far Vonnegut's most famous work is of course "Slaughterhouse 5" which incorporates the 3 day non stop, round the clock saturation bombing of Dresden (RAF at night and American 8th Air Force by day). I think Vonnegut witnessed this terrible act of war as a prisoner of war and sheltered in a metal refrigerated meat locker hence the title of the book. Most historians agree at a figure of 135,000 civilian dead (although German estimates at the time put it nearer 250,000) during this time but argue its necessity to support the Russian thrust into southern Germany. I believe that it was a show of strength aimed at these same Russians should they begin to develop hostilities towards their allies Britain and USA.

Anyway, why not a miniature piece of Dresden pottery...?

Vonnegut's last book "Time" was about his upcoming demise. He knows it's going to happen, and in his book, he reflects about his life. Sad to say, "Time" was not one of his better reads. For art think like Salvatore Dali and try to capture time the way Dali and Vonnegut did in their artworks.

Mr. Vonnegut very much dislikes the current holder of the White House. I saw him interviewed on PBS a while back and he was as witty and opinionated as ever.

My suggestion would be to melt a Cross, preferably one with Jesus tacked to it.

I think you ought to sculpt a pendant in the shape of a large bottle of vodka!
