Please don't say Lord of the Rings. The only stipulation is that the series must be complete. I'm reading 2 different series right now and i'm waiting for books to be written in both. I don't like that.

A poem by Linda Ellis about a eulogy of a woman posed the question about the dash on the tombstone between the birth date and the date of death. The important part of someone’s life showing only as a dash is not significant enough to describe ones own existence. So, I was wondering what is your dash so far? Tell about what is most important to you in your life. What have you learned, thought, experienced, or taught?

Recent film versions of books like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe stirred up memories of another book I read as a teen about 25-30 years ago. All I remember about it is that it involved young characters, a tree swing? or a gazebo? and time travel or traveling to another place/dimension similar to Narnia. Could it possibly have involved a child's drawings coming to life but still being 2-dimensional. If anyone knows the name of this book, let me know - it's bugging me. Thanks! I'm a woman, could have been more of a "girl's book."

The Serboi were probably Sarmatian (Iranian) tribe, who lived in Eastern Europe, to the north of the Caucasus near the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The earliest historical records about Serboi dates from the 1st century, in the works of the historian Tacitus and geographer Pliny. The Sarmatian Serbs, it is argued, intermarried with the indigenous Slavs of the region, adopted their language and transferred their name to the Slavs. The Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitos, in his Book Of Ceremonies66, calls the Croats and Serbs "Krevatas and Sarban", who were located between Alania and Tsanaria. The information that Serbs were mentioned under the name Sarban is important because there is a Pashtun tribal group in Afghanistan named Sarbans, and that could mean that these Pashtun Sarbans are ancestors or relatives of Sarmatian Serbs.

What do you believe??

I need a good poem for a forensics (Speech & Debate) competition this Thursday. It should last more then 5 minutes but not more then 7 or 8 minutes. I needs to be a published poem...and doesn't have to be about anything specific....I just need one because I'm being forced to try poetry and prose.

Are libraries turning into internet cafes? If you've been to a library recently, you may have noticed there are far more people at computer terminals than reading books. Personally, I can't complain. I don't need to wrestle anyone for a book so I don't get punched and kicked as often. I can sit on the floor in an aisle and read without blocking any one's passage. Maybe before long I'll be able to check out books, and they won't even care if I return them.
