Please don't say Lord of the Rings. The only stipulation is that the series must be complete. I'm reading 2 different series right now and i'm waiting for books to be written in both. I don't like that.

Try the Xenogenesis series by Octavia E. Butler.

She is a sci-fi/fantsay writer who has won both Hugo and Nebula awards. She also was the first science fiction writer to receive MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant.

Her books are great and are unlike anything else I have ever read...

T.A. Barron's "The Great Tree of Avalon" Trilogy is wonderful. It puts an interesting spin on Merlin and his adventures and it creates a version of Avalon I had not considered before. Most importantly, all three books have been published. I highly recommend this series.

My wife likes anything from Mercedes Lackey. I enjoy some of her series also.
I'm more of a Terry Pratchet fan. (He's very off the wall in a Douglas Adam's sort of way)
