Sounds like a homework question. I won't answer it for you, but I will advise you to consider what major event in Holden's life prompts his feelings and actions. The author doesn't spend much time on it, but it is there. If we considered what happened to him before he began to "act out", he might be better understood.

Ha, ha looks like someone doesn't want to do his homework. I believe that he was just a confused innocent child who was sick. You get that when he talks about his brother dying. After hearing about it, he smashes his hand through a window or something. I'd say more, but it's been a while since I've read it...
