I am not for or against evolution, I am asking different questions about parts of the different beliefs that don't make sense to me.

How can chemicals and evolution explain me as an ego and not just me as an animal with thoughts and instincts. For example, you can theoretically create a robot that reacts to its environment, tries to protect itself, thinks, learns, has instincts, and even has emotions as controlled by chemicals. But that robot still wouldn't be a real being, but just a machine. They would not truly feel those emotions and wouldn't truly exist beyond chemicals, parts, and whatever else is used.

Shouldn't we, as humans, also be nothing more than neurons and chemicals? Yet each of us knows that we are conscious and real and feel things and have egos.

I like to read alot and I found that Matilda was really a cool but, but comming in a close second was George's Pond. Little Stewart let me down alot, i expected more from it. Charlottes Web was pretty good.
I think they are in this order for quality of story:
1. Matilda
2. George's Pond
3. Charlotte's Web
4. Little Stewart

but what do you think?

Did you know that? Even though he was a Confederate, I believe he was still a great, honorable man. So Happy 200th Birthday, Mr. Lee!

Hi, recently, I attended pottery course. With some leftover stoneware, I made a few mini vases. Troublesome to bring back for firing. Okay to not fire it but just paint it with acrylic paint after they dry up? What vanish can I use to prevent staining on the display shelves after putting the vase there for some time. I have used normal oil vanish on paper clay before and the base will stain the display shelf. I would like the base to be painted though people advised me to leave it unglazed. Can anyone help? tks:)

I asked the question "does bastract painting have a future" in a post a few days ago, I should have been more clear. I meant to ask whether or not you think non-representational painting has a future (for example: color field paintings, drip style, etc...)

Anyone else a completely devoted fan of Ayn Rand? She may have theology that some people really don't like, but I think she was an amazing woman.

I beleive that modern Religion sprung into existense as humans started to live in communities. I belive that human nature is fundamentally selfish so in order to exist in a society there must be rules and punishments and the natural progression is a God in some form who exacts reward punishment. What do you think?

Is it that Bram had issues with homosexuality?
Or is it more to do with his issues with women?

The popular theory on Dracula is the stuff about homsexuality. However, when I read it, I saw a fascination with female sexuality and a horror in women being both virginial and sexual beings (Virgin Whore theory?).

What's your view?
