The actual quote is: "No war can be long carried on against the will of the people", but I couldn't fit it all in. Do you think this is true? Did Burke account for the fact that nations which successfully repress the will of the people can do whatever they like? The Soviet Union was one example. Communist China currently is another one. Apparently, Iran is one more.

I can't remember, but in high school in the 80's we were studying China in History class and we had to read this book that also had a black and white movie out base on it. I remember it had alot of history of Opium use and even alot of the women in the movie had their feet bonded (is that what it was called?) and I understand that isn't done anymore. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have seen on the news that several people are in hot water because they have denied the holocaust ever happened, why? these people are facing prison sentences, simple because they have stated there was no holocaust, and that no Jew,s were gassed, strange? don't you think that such a thng could happen as a team of scientist from versallies university and a team of scientist from U,C,L,A, said the same thing in 1949 after they were commissioned to investigate said atrosicitys, they were also vilified by some segaments of our society, what is your opinion and please no smart a,,, only real honest answers, say why you do or don't believe in the holocaust and wy so many don't want any one denying of the holocaust.

Instead of sending an almost doomed fellowship into Mordor with little hope of success, why didn't they decide at The Council of Elrond to employ one of the Eagles to ferry the Ring into Mordor? They are swifter, sure-sighted, and could certainly bear a hobbit thence, if necessary. Gwaihir was ever a friend to Gandalf and an enemy of Melkor/Sauron. I'm sure they could have gotten to the Cracks of Doom and probably even escaped, thereby eliminating the need for such a bloody, hopeless war.

Could it have something to do with Radagast's loyalty to Saruman?

Disclaimer: I am aware that without the doomed Fellowship the books would not exist and therefore this question would be irrelevent. I also know that LOTR is a work of fiction.
