Get a reputable agent and attend casting calls, and auditions. Join your local theatre group for experience. Acting and drama training would be a good stepping stone into the arts industry, it shows you are trained and disciplined. Their finalists year shows are often attended by talent scouts and agent reps. You never know, you might get lucky there.
Wish you lots of luck!

There are many good books on acting.
"Acting for the Camera" by Tony Barr comes to mind as one of them (my favorite).

There are also some very good schools for acting or you could hire
an acting coach.

Check your local universities.

The last alternative is to check casting calls and just go do it.

You are right about some of us not being cut out to be actors.
I am a writer / director myself. Last summer a friend of mine asked me to work on his film as 2nd 2nd assistant director.
During the course of filming one of the actors became unavailable the same day as the scene he was to be in. My friend
asked if I could fill in. I did. Proved one thing. I should stick to
writing and directing.

Hope this helps.
