why do you think Germany and several other countries have laws against anyone denying the Holocaust?

I have seen on the news that several people are in hot water because they have denied the holocaust ever happened, why? these people are facing prison sentences, simple because they have stated there was no holocaust, and that no Jew,s were gassed, strange? don't you think that such a thng could happen as a team of scientist from versallies university and a team of scientist from U,C,L,A, said the same thing in 1949 after they were commissioned to investigate said atrosicitys, they were also vilified by some segaments of our society, what is your opinion and please no smart a,,, only real honest answers, say why you do or don't believe in the holocaust and wy so many don't want any one denying of the holocaust.

Germany is about the size of Texas, with app; 90 million people , Jew's claimed they were app, 3% during the war there were over 500x came to America, over 400x went to briazil, almost 400x went to palistine, now "Israel" other countries such as Mexico England Canada south America etc and there were over 1 million in Germany after the war where did all of those Jew's come from? Has anyof youseen the films of where they put the Jew's in the basement inpoland and gassed them any one should know that was impossible,

History serves as a warning. We must agree that mistakes that have
happened in the past must not be repeated. The Holocaust was the
worst case of useless human suffering since the holy wars. We cannot
forget in case we allow it to happen again. Anyone who denies it
shows a complete lack of respect for those who died in the camps,
lack of respect for the men and women who died fighting against the
Nazis, and a total lack of ignorance of history. They should be imprisoned.

I cant really see why its illegal to deny anything . Some people deny the existence of God . I also cannot see why anyone either Master or slave would ever deny the Holocaust. You cannot hide the murder of six million people by saying it did'nt happen. They have survivors and film evidence to prove it happened. You know there must be a medical term to describe such people, you know the same ones that believe that Elvis Presley is still alive and driving a truck somewhere. And that the moon is still made of cheese and that that Stone Henge has special powers { funny how it was abandoned all the same } These same people would not believe the Holocause happened unless they were there themselfs, Nothing else would convince them. There are still plenty of first hand witnesses to the Holocaust alive today to serve as proof that the event occurred. Many of these survivors bear the numerical tattoos that were used in concentration camps during the Holocaust to "inventory" prisoners and serve as a method of psychological warfare by attempting to strip prisoners of their individualities. There are countless photos, victims' journals, oral testimonies and documentation providing strong evidence that the Holocaust is a factual event within our past.
Sure it COULD be some MASS conspiracy and hoax..the sorts of which we've all heard are responsible for the U.S. moon landing and the 9/11 attacks and about a billion "alien cover ups".
OR, and far more reasonably I think, denying a well-documented historical event could be an example of yet another ludicrous power mongrel's tactics to justify their actions and instigate radical support in their favor while taking advantage of the common person's STUPIDITY.

The people of Europe are fighting an uphill battle to hold back a renewal of facism all across the continent and particularly in Germany. I personally find it abhorrent that anyone would deny the Holocaust occured. They may as well say that Napolean never marched on Russia or that the African slave trade never occured. Historic fact is just that, fact and if the people of Europe have to pass laws to keep people from rewriting history and causing an uprising of hostile political movements then so be it.

It's kind of difficult for me to accept that the Holocaust was somehow faked--as another answerer noted, the Nazis kept very meticulous records. Moreover, there is the evidence found in the liberated camps themselves--and, by the way, the total number who died in these camps is probably closer to 12 million, once one factors in that approximately another 6 million people who were not Jewish were also killed. They included members of resistance movements in occupied countries such as Poland, France and The Netherlands; Gypsies, Slavs, gays, religious dissenters such as Jehovah's Witnesses, and political dissenters as well.

As to why countries have laws against denial of the Holocaust, I'd have to guess that it was such an awful part of their history that they want to be sure no one minimizes or forgets it. I realize that here in the US we have our long established tradition of freedom of speech, and anyone can pretty much posit any theories he or she chooses, but the deaths in the concentration camps are, for my belief, too well documented for me to buy into vast conspiracy theories explaining them away.

Another reason I suspect that such laws were passed is because the legislators in these countries want to be sure that this episode--one of the most horrific of the 20th century--is not repeated. Call it, if you will, an attempt to keep history from repeating itself.

I believe it happened. The Nazis were good at record keeping. They kept such good records, that a person can trace the entire Holocaust. I believe that those that deny the Holocaust are those that hate Jews.

The evidence for and against the existence of the Holocaust was most recently explored in an English court in the defamation trial of David Irving.

The author and Holocaust denier David Irving had in the past claimed that there was a chain or series of documents which showed that Hitler was innocent of the persecution of the Jews, and in particular their mass-murder during the War; indeed, that he was, in fact, "the best friend the Jews ever had in the Third Reich.

The Defendents in the trial decided to put that claim to the test. They asked a professional historian, Professor Richard Evans of Cambridge University, to investigate it.

His findings were astonishing. Upon examination, virtually every single one of the links in Mr Irving's chain crumbled in his hands, revealing a falsification of history on massive scale. Equally revealing was the discovery that each of Mr Irving's falsifications led to the same end: the exculpation of Hitler.

Here is one example of many:

On the evening of 9th November 1938, and through the night until the following morning, there was an orgy of violence and destruction against Jews and Jewish property throughout Germany. This was Reichskristallnacht.

It had been prompted by the assassination in Paris of a German diplomat by a young Polish Jew. The Nazi leadership in Berlin exploited it to the full. It was orchestrated by the SA and the SS, and the police were ordered, by Hitler, not to intervene.

Mr Irving described this pogrom in various places, but most particularly in his book "Goebbels: Mastermind of Third Reich", which was published in 1996, where he devoted a whole chapter to it. In summary, his account of it is that the whole thing was initiated and orchestrated by Goebbels, without Hitler's knowledge or participation; and that when, in the early hours of 10th November 1938, Hitler found out what Goebbels had done, he was "livid with rage" and took immediate steps to put a stop to it. This account purports to be based partly on the postwar testimony of former Nazis, but principally on the contemporary documents. On examination of those documents, Mr Irving's account turns out to be completely bogus. His use of two of those documents will suffice to illustrate the point.

On page 276 of his Goebbels book, Mr Irving writes this:

"What of Himmler and Hitler? Both were totally unaware of what Goebbels had done until the synagogue next to Munich's Four Seasons Hotel was set on fire around 1 am. Heydrich, Himmler's national chief of police, was relaxing down in the hotel bar; he hurried up to Himmler's room, then telexed instructions to all police authorities to restore law and order,; protect Jews, and Jewish property, and halt any ongoing incidents. I emphasise the last part of that sentence, to restore law and order, protect Jews, and Jewish property, and halt any ongoing incidents.

The reference given by Mr Irving in his book as his source for this is a telex sent by Heydrich at 1.20 am on 10th November 1938. In fact, so far from ordering "all police authorities to restore law and order, protect Jews and Jewish property, and halt any ongoing incidents", it read as follows:

"(a) Only such measures may be taken as do not involve any endangering of German life or property (e.g. synagogue fires only if there is no danger of the fire spreading to the surrounding buildings).

(b) The shops and dwellings of Jews may only be destroyed, not looted. The police are instructed to supervise the implementation of this order and to arrest looters.

(c) Care is to be taken that non-Jewish shops in shopping streets are unconditionally secured against damage.

(d) Foreign nationals may not be assaulted even if they are Jews." That was what Heydrich stayed at 1.20 a.m. on 10th November 1938.

In summary, you need to educate yourself.
