"Studio 60" has little in common with "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

Honestly, I think that the network is flogging a dead horse. I know that the critics like the show--but are audiences watching? I saw the premiere--and didn't like it. My taste is broad AND quirky--but again...the show was too cluttered, too many subplots to try to get the thing off the ground. Viewers are so fickle these days that you have to engage them the first time.

I know that there are so many fans of "The West Wing" who are happy to follow the same writer to this next project--but politics in Washington worked a whole lot better than politics in broadcasting. And Judd Hirsch's character's hijacking of airtime was lifted right from "Network." The show felt stale on the first night.

It does have some superficial elements in common: the "behind the scenes" glimpse of the production of a television series, th elives of the people involved in it.

But the focus is different. DVD Show was focused on being a sitcom. I would say that S60 is more a dramatic commentary on social and political issues.

It still thrills and delights me, and I think it's exceedingly well-written, but 30 Rock comes closer to the DVD mode.

Hey - I'm as liberal as they come. But, must say the writing on this show is offensive. Crazy Christians? Would like to see them do a story line about Moran Muslims, or No-nothing Negras. How do you think that would play out? This show think s they are on the left side edge of being liberal, but in fact they are just as much of a bigot in what they are trying to show bigotry about. Simpletons!
