When writing a novel, how do you find a way to make it truly original? Are there any writing excersises that you know of that can get your brain into motion? Thanks,

Kiara

I am 22 years old and interested in getting into a good book. I just finished reading A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. That book was such a page turner for me. If you know of any great books that are page turners like this book, please let me know the title and author. THANKS!!

Can anyone identify the photo editing software shown in this video? Is this a real program? We've never seen it, but it seems a little generic.

I know for a fact it isn't Photoshop.

I have attempted to write a novel before a few times, but it never really worked out. I'm still at the very, very basics right now. Really my only idea is I want to write a novel that really tears at the reader's emotions, here are 2 VERY VERY basic ideas so far:

1. A family living in an abusive home or

2. A man & woman who've been married for let's say 10 years, and then the woman finds out about her husband's infidelity.

I realize those are extremely basic, but every story starts out with a small spark of idea.

So, how do I go about making this novel original, and not like every other novel out there? Any ideas are appreciated, I may change them or they may spark new ides, I just really need some help and advice.

I want my story to take place in a small town in the state in which i live which is a northern state.

Thanks for any help,

Kiara

To yourself or others. While I know nearly ten by heart, the few I enjoy saying to myself are Donne's tenth sonnet, Frost's The Road Not Taken, and Shakespeare's Fidele, which is my favorite to say. I'm not sure why, but it appeals to me.

This is Fidele

I got asked to play a role in a short film being made by the graduate students at my college. In the scene, I have to embrace/make out with my 'mistress'. I haven't met this girl yet, and I'm normally a tech guy- not an actor. My question is for the actors- how should I approach this? When the director says cut, should I keep kissing for the sake of continuity, or just immediately break off? I don't want this person to think I think they're gross (they probably aren't), and I don't want them to think I'm a wierdo, either. Any tips for pretending with somebody you don't know?

Looking at the Canterbury Tales and Hamlet, what similiarities in the texts do you see. These could be writing styles or themes. Whatever.

...they make it seem like the US was wrong and they were right.

There were no "innocent victims" in Japan during WW II. They got what was coming to them after they murdered, raped, and enslaved hundreds of millions in Asia.

America is the hero.

There should be NO CEREMONY at all to remember "innocent victims", but the ceremony should be to celebrate the bravery of the crew on the Enola Gay.

What are your thoughts on this?
I'm preparing for a socratic seminar that will take place next week about the creation of the atomic bomb and the moral dilemma that the scientists involved in the project faced.
In your opinion, was it right to go ahead with creating such a dangerous and potentially destructive weapon?
