First of all what is an American? European, Oriental, African, Hispanic, Native American, Mid Eastern, Polynesian? An American is a combination of many different peoples. Anyone who believes that Americans were here first would be right. American Indians were here when the Spanish arrived in Central America. The Spanish came as all men have into foreign lands throughout history: To conquer and rule. To enslave and pillage. It is a scenario that has been repeated over and over since the dawn of man. Survival of the most advanced over those whose technology was no match.
Man has always conquered other men. Whither a neighboring tribe or island, a foreign land, or another race of people. That is why we still to this day have wars. But sometimes man has to give cause or reason to members of their own people to give them a way to ease their consonance. After all....... how many would be willing to kill others or maybe be killed by others for the sake of the greed of their leaders? So; enter religion. It gives cause or justification for peoples and races to destroy another. (Their God is not our God.)
Throughout the history of the world there has always been a dominant power. Tribal wars between Native Americans, African tribes performing genocide, The feudal wars of Europe, Asian warlords, Alexander the Great, The Egyptians,The Roman Empire, The Huns, Hannibal, The Vikings, The Persians, The Ottomans, Genghis Khan, The Crusades, The so called "discovery" of America and subsequent plundering by the Spanish, then the Europeans,The rise of the British Empire, The American Revolution, Napoleon, The American Civil War, The Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, The Korean War, The Vietnam "Conflict". Now the Middle East again. And all the thousands of wars fought in between these. The list is endless.
Were "Americans" lost? I'm afraid that the entire world is lost. Were the Vikings lost? No they were island jumping and exploring. Was Columbus lost? Not really he was searching for a shorter route to the Indies and "tripped" on the islands off the coast of the Continent of America. Now there is at least some evidence that some of the Knights Templar's fleeing King Phillip of France and The Pope, boarded ships in France and becoming men without a land stumbled across the Continent of America sometime in the early 1300's.
As far as anyone being lost and the Native Americans helping them, you must be referring to the party aboard the Mayflower. The group that U.S. History calls the "Pilgrims". The Native Americans without a doubt helped them survive throughout the winter, though they probably had already heard at least stories that there were "white" settlers south of them at the time. And contrary to U.S. grade school history, the "Pilgrims" were not a group of black clad religious zealots that had put to land because they were lost. According to the ships log, which is kept in the Smithsonian Institute, the "Pilgrims" wore colorful dress and put into Plymouth Harbor because they had ran out of beer and wanted to brew some.
The major undoing of the Native Americans as the dominate force on the continent came not at the business end of a weapon though the Spanish were quite successful in Central and South America with that method. The fact that Native Americans came in contact with people who carried germs and bacteria that Native Americans had no immunity system developed to resist, caused the deaths of between 60-75% of them.
"How does the world end? Not with a bang, but with a whimper."

Well, the AMERICANS aren't the discoverers of America.
That said, the history of the world before mass colonization of the New World that we read is based upon the European point of view. Therefore, from a Euro-viewpoint, the American Continent was indeed "discovered" because nobody knew it was there.
The Vikings and Spain from that perspective were "here first." But the Vikings didn't write books and keep history so we give credit to the Europeans. So to be strict, Americans don't think they were here first - it was Europeans.
European cultures back in the late 1400s and 1500s and really almost until the 20th century had the attitude that they were superior and had the right to assimilate whatever they found into their own territory. They colonized to gain wealth and power for their home nation and, obstensively, to spread Catholicism.
Americans had the same attitude toward native peoples. The value of "non educated" cultures and trying to keep them intact has only recently come into vogue with the realization that they have something to teach us.

Your basic premise is wrong. No Americans believe that white people predated the Native Americans unless they are hopelessly uneducated.
Christopher Columbus wasn't lost, he was looking for a new way to get to Asia by going the other way around the globe. He just didn't know there was another continent in the way.
Native Americans did help the Pilgrims, but that was only temporary. The Pilgrims got nervous that the food would run out if they had to share with the N.A.s, so they attacked them. The history of the treatment of Native Americans is a long trail of broken promises and nasty betrayals.
History is always more complex than we can ever hope to understand, but you need to find yourself a good book on this topic and learn something more about it.

Those aren't ethnicities they are nationalities. I think no matter where your family is from it's normal to lose some of that when you are born in another country but that happens in all countries, not just america. If my ancestors were italian and I was born in france I might feel more french than italian. American is also a nationality and although you don't realize it you have a culture. My family is cuban but i was born in NYC. I am engaged to a southern boy, whose family has been in America many generations. I have thought about our future children and worry that they will only be american.. where I feel like I have two cultures in me. They will be more one. I hope that I can teach them about my family's culture and language. I think you can learn about your family's culture too. Make an effort to find out about your relatives and consider traveling. Hang out with people from those countries, go to restaurants and read. No matter what you will be american just like I am. My best friend is cuban too and her family has been in America less time so she is way more spanish that I am. It's funny because in America she feels so spanish. When she went to Germany for one year she said she never felt so American. American culture is a mix of others as well plus our own uniqueness that you only can feel when your not here lol. It's like if you were color blind you would never know until you saw color. Sometimes you have to leave america to realize we have our own culture.

Native Americans were here first, followed by the Europeans, not the Americans. Americans weren't Americans until many years later.

Until recently it was thought that the first Americans were of Asian origin and came across the Bering Straits land bridge 10,000 years ago. Now they've got sufficient evidence that Europeans also got here during the last Ice Age (15,000 years ago). The two groups met and intermarried to form the Native American cultures.
As for the rest of us, the boat's always been met and no one is stupid enough to think we were here first.

Americans? Americans are what we became once the country was established and called America.
Columbus wasn't lost he was ignorant, he was unaware that there was another land mass between him and his destination.
Who may i remind you was an ITALIAN and sailed for SPAIN.
America was named after Amerigo Vespucci - get your facts straight!
anyone who tries to argue this point is retarded.
