I have attempted to write a novel before a few times, but it never really worked out. I'm still at the very, very basics right now. Really my only idea is I want to write a novel that really tears at the reader's emotions, here are 2 VERY VERY basic ideas so far:

1. A family living in an abusive home or

2. A man & woman who've been married for let's say 10 years, and then the woman finds out about her husband's infidelity.

I realize those are extremely basic, but every story starts out with a small spark of idea.

So, how do I go about making this novel original, and not like every other novel out there? Any ideas are appreciated, I may change them or they may spark new ides, I just really need some help and advice.

I want my story to take place in a small town in the state in which i live which is a northern state.

Thanks for any help,

Kiara

Thanks for the last two comments, those are helpful.

How could I make this story really affect the reader's emotions and show them that stuff like this really does happen and we need to stop being so oblivious?

One of the best ways to really grab your reader's attention is to make them believe the story. The way to be really original as a writer is to go the extra mile with your characters. You can do this by making your characters as real and relatable as everyday people. You can take the most basic and common situation and make it your own. Draft the emotion realistically by drawing from your own emotional well. Maybe you've never been abused, but think about how you felt when someone hurt you. Maybe someone made a joke at your expense once. Draw from that experience, the humiliation, the self-conscious haunting that occured afterward... just go with it. Research is fantastic, but nothing in the world lends to your characters like your own personal experiences will.

i'm a guy, and exceptionally plenty all of my well-liked novels (action, adventure, technological know-how fiction) have been written by ability of adult males. previous that, i do no longer understand why. that's purely how that's became out from the books i've got enjoyed the main. I easily won't be able to think of of a e book written by ability of a girl author (that i understand of) that I truthfully have enjoyed analyzing. One novel that sticks in my thoughts because of the fact I had to examine it in intense college became The Awakening by ability of Kate Chopin; between the main uninteresting books I ever examine and, sarcastically sufficient, I nonetheless pull it out each and every now and then to skim some pages whilst i'm having hassle falling asleep, and it does the trick appropriate away.

Some of the best movies or novels are better told from a "son, daughters" point of view relating to your story. It will emphasize the feelings, desires, damages for the innocent by standard in the story. this might be just and idea in order to elaborate.

Cool... I would suggest making it more realistic, because some novels seem so dramatic like soap operas, and that's kind of annoying and turns me off... I like idea #1... #2 is soo common in a lot of stories..

I would go with the abuse idea. To make it unique, have the victims turn on the abuser and see that justice prevails.
