Have you ever been in this situation? You're reading a piece of dialogue in a novel, and you suddenly ask yourself, "Which one said this?" You have to go back, sometimes a page or so, till you can say, "OK, John said this" and then you have to go forward, noting "this is Mary - this is John - this is Mary" etc, till you get to the bit that puzzled you, If novelists haven't got the skill to make it obvious who's talking, either through characterisation or through the plot, they should put in "said John" and "said Mary" often enough to signpost the reader.

I have an art piece that I wish to sell on ebay. There is nudity, but nothing pornographic or explicit about the piece.
What are the guidlines pertaining to art submissions on ebay? I looked on the site but could not find anything pertaining to art. Would this piece have to be listed under "mature audiences" even if it is artistic nudity?
Any help would be most appreciated.

I just got these three classics at a yard sale today and am curious to see what people think of them (and/or the authors who wrote them) if you have read any of them.

Thanks!

San Francisco, Santa Fe, San Diego, Los Angeles... some cities has these names in Spanish but not in English. Why not in English as New York. Los Angeles, for instance, should be The Angels.

I can imagine a God who works through evolution, and I don't think the past existence of dinosaurs, etc in itself poses any problem for religious belief, BUT if humanity has gradually evolved, how can ape-man of generation G be an animal, and generation
G + 1 be a human with an immortal soul? It is ridiculous to imagine a gradual development of primitive souls. This seems to be an insuperable objection to a Christian accepting evolution, and any such Christian is committing what Orwell called "doublethink" - accepting two contradictory ideas simultaneously. What do you think?

I want this to be the end-all-be-all of arguments against religion but not in a malicious way. Yes, lots of anger is involved on my part and on the part of other non-religionists, but that anger stems mostly from the fact that we are persecuted because we use our brains. We get painted as horrible, wicked people when in reality we are usually even more ethical than these so-called Christians. They impose their views on us and we are ostracized for not conforming to their beliefs. Christians may say that they are the ones that are victimized and persecuted, but I don't call it persecution when the attacks are provoked by them. They condemn people and then play the victim when someone reacts, like I am doing. I don't hunt down Catholics and persecute them; I am hounded by them everyday. I want this to be written as less of an attack and more of a defense on our part, a defense of we who want to enjoy life and think for ourselves without persecution. Contact me if you want to contribute.

I would say Heathcliff except so many already admire or fancy him and therefore I opt for Scaramouche (written by Rafael Sabatini). The novel has a memorable opening line: "He was born with the gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad."

I am not religious and I like to follow my instincts and not be tied down by some strict, inhibiting moral code that, if it were actually followed would lead to passivity, misery, boredom and nothingness. I do not believe in the logic behind following a set of limiting, self-deprecating, self denying, self-defeating rules just for the sake of principle and to "please god". I do not believe in putting labels of "good" and "evil" on everything. The world would not make any progress and it would be an extremely boring place if it were not for things so wrongly labeled as "sin". They label things as "sins" and "failures" and "weakness" and we're supposed to avoid these things. But why? Whose happiness does this lead to? It leads to the happiness of the person exercising their authority over the so called "sinner". Not "sinning" is the same as not living. Why not just kill yourself instead? I don't kill or rape; what more do they want?

Parasites, the missing word in science, medicine and philosophy: Why ?

It appears that the world has become isolated from the dangerous world of 'parasites'.

From the parasites that cause ulcers, IBS, Crohns, perhaps even MS and Cancer, the medical world has turned a blind eye to this relatively simple cause for many illnesses.

In the world of philosophy, the term 'parasites' has been ignored as in corporate or welfare parasites, or as in the world of religion, homosexual and heterosexual pedofiles who prey on little children, parasites as in spouses who prey on their families, or children who prey on their parents, or lesbian feminists exploiting half-truths to divide the sexes and promote division.

Why is this term, 'parasites' being ignored ?
