I just got these three classics at a yard sale today and am curious to see what people think of them (and/or the authors who wrote them) if you have read any of them.

Thanks!

Ive read The Scarlet Letter. Its a great book but hard to read becuase of the language. There are a lot of biblical illusions and symbolism in the piece so keep an open mind and eye for those. But i think you will enjoy it.

The Scarlet Letter, War and Peace, and Wuthering Heights are reflections on society and life in a particular time; just as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and Oscar Wilde wrote of society in their generation.

The Scarlet Letter reflects on a puritanical, unforgiving society, War and Peace addresses the oppression endured in Czarist Russia, and Wuthering Heights depicts abject poverty and deprivation with "social" position, and that even those with the "luxuries" of money are not devoid of their "demons".

I extremely dislike Wuthering Heights, it has no plot and is gust a gushy romance the whole book through, either two or three whole generations of cheating, being mean, and corrupting the family further until Heathcliff dies and everything becomes perfect again. Nothing interesting happens in this book, although I do sorta like the character of Heathcliff, he is the most interesting character in the book because his story still has mystery to it all through and it is never told what he really did when he went away and came back rich. "Jane Eyre", written by the author's sister is WAY better.

The other two book I have not read.

I really liked the Scarlet Letter (but the movie was better). Wuthering Heights was good too but I find the classics kind of boring.

Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote "The Scarlet Letter." Leon Tolstoy wrote "War and Peace." Emily Bronte wrote "Wuthering Heights."

I've read none of these books, but I know that "The Scarlet Letter" is about adultery in colonial, puritanical America. "War and Peace" is a long book and I will tackle it one day. "Wuthering Heights" is a chick-flick on paper, not worth my valuable time.

I hated Wuthering Heights with a passion. Bunch of stupid people whining about their problems for how many freakin' pages?? Anyway. War and Peace surprised me with how enjoyable I found it, but, seriously, I think the entire population of Russia plus half the rest of Europe appears at one point or another in the novel. Prepare for lots of "wait, who was that guy again?" I liked the Scarlett Letter. It's very quiet, but it's good, and it is short.

confusing to declare. study the two. enjoyed the two. yet Wuthering Heights is extra romantic and has extra alluring plot. Scarlet letter is extra dramatic and extra socially important As for language I agree that N. Hawthorne is complicated yet E. Bronte isn't much less complicated

I saw the movie version of Wuthering Heights twice. I hated it the first time and loved it the second time. Has a good cast.
