I often read about this term as it relates to someone's criticism of music or literature. I know it has a sort of negative connotation, but I'm not sure what it means to be an artist or writer whose work is considered to have the attribute of "navel gazing."

This is one thing that I don't quite understand. The Jews are smart people who have high achievements, wealthy and had significant influence in many countries' economies throughout history. They have proportionally far more Nobel Prize Laureates than any other people, including the one and only Einstein.

If it is because of skin color or appearance, I don't see how they differ much from Italians or Greeks etc.

Can somone who knows more about history or religions please explain?

Why do people go through so much to LOOK good. Why are plastic surgeries on the rise?? Why are makeup industries and fashion industries booming?? Why do people obsess about their looks more than their values??

The bigger question being, what drives our desire for physical perfection?

My personal idea is this: I think appearance has great masking abilities. People have flaws in their personalities, and this is an inevitable reality. However, looks can be altered a lot easier than your habits or values..etc...When these things are altered for the "better" they make you look like a more "put together" person. Since we all know that first impressions create and impact we strive to create not a better person, but a better mask...

I have one of those dual names, that could be used as a girl or a boy name, but when people don't meet me in person, or hear my voice, they always lean towards the girl side of my name ~ My name is Paris, Im thinking of changing it to my last name, so my name would be Adams Adams, should I, and if so do you have any other names cooler than my last name, I could change it to

For instance, in no particular order, I would want to participate in the Great Salt March of M. Gandhi in India, as well as see Frida Kahlo work on one of her self-portraits. I would also like to witness an original Shakespeare production of "A Midsummer's Night Dream," and act to save wise women from persecution during the Salem Witch Trials. Last but far from least, I would like to have heard Sojourner Truth give her "Ain't I A Woman" speech.
