We'd like to replace our laminate kitchen countertop with granite tiles. I've been told that if the laminate is in good condition, the tiles can be put on right on top of the laminate (with the right prep work).

Have any of you redone your own kitchen counters? We're scared, as we're not terribly handy around the house. Any advice (other than "don't do it!")?

1) Eliminating the IRS - this would be awesome, no doubt, but the consequences would be - interest rates soar - after all, if there is no money to pay the interest on the bonds, why would foreign holders continue to hold our debt?.....the stock market declines nicely, perhaps 30-40% (maybe more) because the ability for our government to issue debt is vital for our economy....the dollar plummets further, perhaps to $4/euro, why? well when those foreign debt holders dump our bonds they will sell dollars and buy back their currency. 2) the elimination of the federal reserve......with no lender of last resort who would prevent runs on our banks when there is a mad rush to convert meaningless paper assets to gold 3) putting us back on the gold standard would cause mass inflation while the economy plunges into recession because no money to back our bonds and no fed to rescue the banks, everything of real value rises - gold, wheat , oil.... no way he could do it even 2 terms

Hello, my ex-boyfriend whom I was in love with in high school and college recently contacted me.

I moved very far from my hometown to go to college in Boston. My ex and I tired to keep contact with one another, but it was too much distance. It also didn't help that I started to see his best friend (who was also at college in Boston).

I married his best friend, about 3 years after graduating. My ex was fine with things, was at the wedding, etc. However, shortly thereafter, my husband and I lost contact with him.

My husband passed away over a year ago now from being involved in a car accident. And my ex contacted me last week in a long letter saying how he heard about my husband but couldn't bring himself to come to the funeral, and how he misses me, and was wondering if it was alright that he came and saw me.

I would like to see him and catch up with him, but is this a bad idea? I do not want to give him false hope, or anything along those lines whatsoever.

Thank you.

My SIL has never liked me & was in high school when my husband & I started dating. A lot of our disagreements came because she failed out of school & she wanted my husband & I to aide or cover for her irresponsible behavior. SIL has never liked me, she's never made it a secret she wished her brother had married the girlfriend she liked. What threw me for a loop is my mother in law recently stated that SIL has been trashing me to family friends and that MIL was fine with SIL trashing me to her and my FIL, but not to family friends or exteded family members. What does this mean? My SIL is one of those girls who has her parents wrapped around her finger, she always gets to do whatever she wants. Is SIL trashing me just an extension of her never being repremanded or does my MIL not like me? My husband thought his parents liked me, he says they've treated me better than anyone else, but my hubby and I are confused by this. I feel akward around MIL now, please help.

good or bad memories from high school? I'll start it off: I had horrible memories from high school. I was so, so, so, so shy. I had about 2 friends, but I did speak to some others. I hated giving an answer in class. I am anything but shy now...

My ex boyfriend told me i was the only girl he loved. Well thats until he met someone new. He told me he loved her, but wasn't in love with her. Silly enough i believed him and i stuck around. His relationship with her lasted longer than anyone could even imagine. My hope was up. I gave up on him. And i told myself that i would never look back because he hurt me too much. But now he is not with her, and he recently contacted me asking for another chance. Believe it or not. I still love him with all my heart. But i some ways i feel like he doesn't deserve me. but the love in my heart is too strong for him. and i feel like he feels the same, even though he has hurt me as many times as he did. now i'm lost on what i should be because he claims he will never hurt me again. and that he wants to be with me forever. what should i do about my situation?

I asked this question before but didn't really get alot of answers. I am 29 years old and a 8 year Navy vet. I am currently in my second year of law school. I also have a family.

I am applying for the air force JAG Corps as I want to go back into the military. I can retire in 12 years. If I am not selected for the JAG, I am still considering going for the Air Force ROTC. Doing so would mean that, although I would graduate with a J.D. I wouldn't be able to practice law, possibly for 12 years.

However, my family would be taken care of and I could possible retire in 12 years. Not to mention there is a chance that my last year of law school could be paid for and even receive a monthly stipend...

I would appreciate any and all "helpful" advice.

Every question I've seen today has been littered with "Judgment is upon us, Christians FLEE THE CHURCHES, God is going to end the world in X amount of days!"

Did God give a sermone somewhere that no one heard but these people, and why are there so many of them today?

I have always voted republican for president. However the republican choices this time around are way too creepy to vote for, sick of the religious right crap.

However, the thought of socialized universal healthcare is just as creepy and would be an adverse effect to our everyday lives. Are any of the bleeding heart candidates not for it and who are they? I like Obama, but I hear he has one planned like Hilary.

Please correct me if I am wrong and which way do you think I should vote: Creepy Jesus Conservatives versus Communist-like Healthcare Proponents.
