Some religious friends and/or colleagues say " Oh, I'm going to pray that I get a good job." Or pray for other things that are totally in their control. Why don't people just take responsibilty for their own lives instead of putting it in God's hands?

at the last minute i asked for a $5 ticket at the gas station yesterday (which i never do), i scratched it and won $250.
funny thing is, i've answered at least a dozen "what do you want for Christmas" Q's, ...with... "a winning lottery ticket".

i'm glad i didn't resist that impulse buy.

Ok - what do you think of this:

I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, but my father never really was one. He is a horrible person and I hope he dies, BUT, when I was 11, he verbally abused me so bad it got to the point he told me he hated me, wished I wasn't born (I'm his only daughter and his oldest child - how nice) and told me he never wanted to see me again.
I was an outcast in the church because my dad had left my mom but still lived in the finished basement - so since we still associated and such i was considered "bad association" by them.

So - being 11 and all - I was obviously depressed.

One day after a church session, I had a meeting with Elders (meaning i did something bad). I forget what it was about, but they told me the same thing my Grandfather did.. That I have no reason to be depressed. If I really loved Jehovah, I would be happy.

My grampa actually said "how dare you be depressed when you know Jehovah. Don't you love him?"

Is that horrible or what?

I am a 1st yr second grade teacher. The Mother, Aunt and Grandmother of one student and the Father of another student asked to attend my holiday party. Naturally I assumed they were going to help.

They did absolutely nothing but sit and watch me work. I was rushing around giving out pizza, wiping up spills, refilling juice cups, trying to keep kids calm, etc.

At one point the Father was like, "Excuse me," and I thought he was going to ask if he could help but he just was like, "There's no music? It seems quiet".

WHY DID THEY EVEN COME IF THEY WERE JUST GOING TO SIT AROUND and not lift a finger?

It seems that some religious believers equate mere disagreement with armed conflict. Someone disagrees with us! Time to fight!

What happened to plain old discussion and logical persuasion? What happened to letting someone be when you can't come to a common conclusion?

I look at the violence in the world, see web sites like this and I conclude that the world would be much better off without religion.

The other night my fiance' found a text message from one of my female friends asking me when are we going to hook up. Nothing gay or bi or anything but he thought it was a man calling my phone so he called the number back while I was sleep and her boyfriend is talking on the answering machine. I wouldnt tell him her name because me and her dont talk anymore and I was upset about him calling the phone number back before consulting me in the first place. Should I stay upset with him or should I just let it go. He is mad at me because he feels like I'm wrong for not telling him the sex or name of the person.

Ok her is the scoop......I had a baby 3 year ago with this guy Jason.Whick is her biological dad.We split up when she was 2 months old.And I got with this other guy that I am currently still with.So she knows him as dad and not her biological dad.He has seen her once this whole time and that was even before she turned one.So I got a phone call the other day and it was her biological dad wanting to know how she was...I think that after3 years that it will confuse her to much.I think that he will just be in her life for awhile and then poof...What do I do???
