I am a 1st yr second grade teacher. The Mother, Aunt and Grandmother of one student and the Father of another student asked to attend my holiday party. Naturally I assumed they were going to help.

They did absolutely nothing but sit and watch me work. I was rushing around giving out pizza, wiping up spills, refilling juice cups, trying to keep kids calm, etc.

At one point the Father was like, "Excuse me," and I thought he was going to ask if he could help but he just was like, "There's no music? It seems quiet".

WHY DID THEY EVEN COME IF THEY WERE JUST GOING TO SIT AROUND and not lift a finger?

You are new at teaching I suppose, and they might be new to this school christmas party, in my opinion as a mom, everybody loves to help a teacher, (students, parents) you just need to be a little bit more open and let them know it's ok to help you, they may have been intimidated or may have been wating for a sign.

Most likely something to do... Next time someone asks to come to their kids party at school politely ask "Oh you would like to come help? That would be great!" It gives a hint, that way you can ask them to do stuff without them saying "Im not here to help!" Theres nothing you can do since this party is over but be a little wiser just remember next time.

Oh person above it was a party for little kids you know my fiances mother does the same type of stuff, if I recall its because she develops mentally slower than others because of that mutation. So dont worry trolls are fun but be a sensible troll.

Ah, the error appears in this sentence, "Naturally I assumed they were going to help." Remember the classic "odd couple" episode where felix explains that when one "assumes" one makes an a** of u and me (divide up the word). Anyway, what prevented you from opening your mouth and ASKING them to help??

In the future have no expectations - if they help it's a plus.
Lots of people think it's the teachers job (mistakenly).

Maybe you just weren't dressed sexy enough. Sometimes you grade school teachers forget how to get your game on when the adults show up.

They were there to see their kids.

You expected what you didnt ask for. If thats what you wanted, you should have made it clear when they asked.
