Gentle historians,

Help me to understand this vexing situation of crossed swords, this battle of minds.

John N. posted question in the History Forum:

Before the 19th century, the United States had never seen it. What is it?

My response was Answer #1:

A baby born in 1801.

And you, distinguished reader, will understand: the 19th-Century began in 1801 – so BEFORE the 19th Century, no one in the United States had seen a baby born in 1801. In other words, from the beginning of time up to the 19th Century, no one in the US had seen a baby born in 1801.

Then this guy (we’ll call him Answer #5) offered his opinion:

remeber the 19th century is the 1800's .... so a baby in 1801 would not count

Am I not understanding his response?

Why doesn't the baby count? More specifically, why does Answerer #5 HATE BABIES? How can someone hate babies? They are so cute.

So who is the idiot – me or him? (No credit for the obvious answer that we’re both idiots.)

I just got done reading someone else's question about how they felt marriage was pointless and wasn't a commitment at all. That really mad me sad to read - doesn't anyone see how great marriage is anymore? Doesn't anyone see the benefits of being in a stable marriage? Am I the only one who loves being married? lol

Swimmers starting from rest slide down from the top of a slide and leave the end of the slide traveling horizontally. A person hits the water 5.00 m from the end of the slide in a time of .500 seconds after leaving the slide. Ignoring air resistance and friction, find the height.

A block has a mass of 2.0 kg sliding on a frictionless surface toward a relaxed spring of lenght .30 m. When striking the spring the block continues to slide to the right until the spring is squeezed down to a length of .10 m, at which the block momentarily comes to rest. if the block's initial speed is 10.0 m/s, what is the average force exerted by the spring in brining the block back to rest? Use the impulse-momentum theorem to estimate the time it took to stop the block, from the moment it first came into contact with the spring until it came to rest.

I find it difficult approaching and having anything interesting to say to women when I'm out. Is there anything to help guys like me who fumble with what to say?
I'm looking for specific anecdotes, dos and don'ts, etc. Since my male role models were often not the best people to get this advice from.

I am currently 9 weeks and feel the need to get an abortion, too weak, too poor, etc to go through with this right now. I do however believe in karma in some ways as Ive experienced it myself, and I am just wondering do you think an outside force will punish me for getting an abortion? Of the people I know who have had an abortion, some have seem to bad things coming to them others dont. Do you believe if I get an abortion it will bring me bad karma? Just for the record this has not been an easy decision for me; if women mourn after having an abortion, then Ive started my mourning before.

I work at a customer service center for a local electric company. When I tell people that it will be a few minutes before a representative is available I always ask them to have a seat in our waiting area.

Old people NEVER sit when asked. They either stand in front of my desk and read the pamphlets we have or peer over me while I am trying to do my work.... what gives?
